2003 Ticking noise
The oil pressure was not tested. They pull plugs and found coolant leaking into cylinders on both sides of the block. There's knocking coming from both the top, and bottom of the block.- chinesewoodbass

I really appreciate the input! What do I need to do an oil pressure test. My skills are very basic. I've done two valve jobs, and one timing belt-years ago! Once, I determine the nature of the issues, won't my end result be the same? BTW, it still runs, and accelerates with cojones! It's idles...- chinesewoodbass

Yes, I need an engine! What's the most cost effective way to go, that is I only want to do this once. I was quoted $22,000 at the dealer for a new engine. That's not a misprint, 22 thousand! I suspect that's to encourage me to buy something newer? I'm in love with those solid axles!- chinesewoodbass

Thank you for your candid answer Dave! I've seen two mechanics thus far, one says the noises are just the quirks of this particular year, another said "run away" just on the sounds it made as I pulled into his lot! Do you know of any Rover specialist in New Jersey?- chinesewoodbass

That's exactly what happens, the lifter noise starts once the engine is warmed up! What do you mean by"walking"?- chinesewoodbass

Hey guys, I've a 2003 with a similar lifter noise. I can do small jobs like brakes and such, but not major engine repair. I'm also looking for a good Rover mechanic near Essex county, New Jersey.- chinesewoodbass
