We're a bit off topic now, but just another data point for you as I did a ton of research when adding paddles to my 322.
Literally the only thing I needed to do was "enable paddles" with the Gap tool. Nothing about a TCU reset and they worked flawlessly while under my ownership.
That's how my FFRR 2012 worked as well when I added paddles. I assumed it would be the same when/if I get a V8 LR4 and add paddles to that. Being able to downshift while in D was something I did routinely. If I wanted full control, over to Sport.

I gather nothing new here? My pursuit of a 10-13 LR4 HD is basically impossible so debating whether seeking out a Non-HD and relying on the Lucky8 option. Anyone here?? Seems like Lucky8 should have some customer references if they had done it, tested it, and recommended it.
