I have a 2013 LR4 and have been searching awhile for sump guard options. Front Runner now has one that will fit the 2013 and newer LR4's. The pre-2013 version was 6mm aluminum, but the newer 2013+ version is 4.5mm stainless steel (black powder coated). I don't know enough about metals to determine strength differences. Pricing is similar, around $400.

Install looks straight forward so I will probably order it and try it out. Does anyone have any experience with Front Runner sump guards or any of their other products regarding quality/fit?

Thanks.

(product title notes "2014 forward", but instructions state 2013 forward and Sales confirmed)

I like the fact it's stainless steel (although 4.5mm thick steel... seems awfully thin, but like you I am no expert on metal strength), that it is nice and wide under the bumper and that it is powder coated - should look good and fairly stealthy down there. It's kinda short however, calling it a "sump" guard is a bit of a stretch. The Asfir guard is another option, it is aluminum and it is not powder coated - I had it done locally - but it does extend much further under the car, so it will offer some extra protection. Although others have had fitting issues with it, I had no such problems mounting the Asfir on my 2013 by myself in my garage - I installed two of them actually, as the first one got bent up in an accident I had. With shipping from Israel, it costs just over $300 currently, but plan on spending another $100 or so if you want to get it powder coated, so you'll end up spending about the same. http://www.asfir.com/catalog-landrover/catalog-landrover-discovery4/539055

Thanks for the Asfir picture. I remember looking at that guard a couple of years ago, I believe on the Urban Offroad site, but they don't appear to carry it anymore (but your direct asfir link helps). I recall I thought the front was a little narrow (like it was for either pre 2013 LR4 or for LR3). But like you said, it appears to protect further back. A combo of the two would be nice.

I might order the Front Runner first. And for further protection I could possible get the Asfir and have a metal shop cut out back section. I'll need to see which bolt holes are used. It also looks like on the Asfir site there is a gear skid plate that would provide coverage even further back. It never ends.

Thanks.

i also have the asfir front skid plate and their air pump guard...fits very well. But I don't think you can go wrong with Frontrunner's stuff...show us what it looks like after you install it.

I'll plan to post a pic (the install instructions online look straight forward...which means it will take me a full day). It will probably happen at the end of month since it will be sitting wrapped under the tree until then. Nothing like getting a piece of steel from Santa. I guess it beats a lump of coal.

I'm in the process of ordering Asfir dump guard and Pro Speed front/rear lower control arm guards. Asfir USA has them to ship domestic. Much cheaper than over seas.

Thanks for the heads up on the USA site. I looked a few months ago and didn't see one, but looked again just now and found it. Ordered the front skid plate and the gear skid plate. They're sold out of the rear differential skid.

It appears Asfir doesn't make a front skid for the 2014+ LR4, bummer

Yeah... I am having a hard time finding a 2014+ guard that I like and seems to look like it actually fits. The black version of the prospeed seems to be the best one so far, but not sold yet.
