    Brodsy's Brake Bible: LR3 & LR4

Just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Brodsy's Brake Bible, an independent "DIY Guide" for ALL LR3 & LR4 brake systems that you can find via a Google search.... LINK: https://studylib.net/doc/18360652/bodsy-s-brake-bible Note: v1.6 is the latest. Link is v1.4. When I moved from my LR3 to an...

Thinking of moving on from LR4...

Thanks so much for the great thoughts guys, and my apologies for taking so long to respond... I ended up buying a 2018 Range Rover Sport Td6 (certified) and turned in the LR4 to a local Carmax for $3,800 cash. Definitely miss the LR4 already - such a workhorse, and a true member of our family...

That SCV8 Defender does sound amazing! I can't wait to drive it!

Thinking of moving on from LR4...

I just do routine (by the book) maintenance, earlier in its life with a dealer and then eventually a trusted independent. After start-up, I let the car the car find idle (10-20 seconds?) before putting it in gear - but that is just superstition on my part. I recommend not worrying too much...

Thinking of moving on from LR4...

I am a car guy and have spent thousands of hours on chat boards over the last 25+ years.... I've learned that most of the *alarmists* are absolutely correct that there is an issue to explore, but more often than not the issue is an exception and not the general rule... Check out "oil threads"...

Thinking of moving on from LR4...

Thanks guys! Great feedback. I'm on the original timing chain tensioners and chain, and have had ZERO transmission issues. Despite the issues list, I really do love this car! It has been a real workhorse. We are Rover people, and our family cars have included a Disco II, LR3 and then this...

Thinking of moving on from LR4...

I purchased my 2011 LR4 Black Metropolis Edition on Memorial Day Weekend in 2011. This week, it hit 233,000 miles on the odometer. It has been as far west as California, as far south as Mexico, as far east as Boston and as far north as British Columbia. Quite the workhorse, and I still love...

    What oil are you using?

I still buy the Jaguar-branded filter... for some reason, it is $8 cheaper at the local dealer than the Rover part. Have used a Mahle purchased off Amazon and it worked great.

    What oil are you using?

Enjoying this thread guys - thanks. I tend to agree with Fuji4... I am DIY oil changer, but have been loyal to Rover and spend the money on "Gucci" Castrol and drain every 7,500 miles. At one point, I moved to the Mobil and to my ear - the car ran rougher. I am so far out of warranty that I...

    Heated Steering Wheel Not Working

I had the same issue a few years ago, and unfortunately never got it resolved. They dealer told me that "I needed a new circuit board" and the cost would be @$1,000 installed. I now wear gloves (jk)... I think that Quijote offers the best advice, and I plan to dive into this as a summer...

    Aftermarket compressor for suspension?

Just crossed 230,000 miles on our 2011 LR4, and have yet to replace the compressor but have rebuilt it once with a $48 kit from the UK (UKARAUTO) back in Summer 2017. It took my son and I about 4 hours to figure it out, but it is still holding strong to date. Lastly, we live at 7,500 feet...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Gorgeous! My apologies for taking 4 MONTHS to respond to your post, but I just saw it today... Love the 993 Cab and the 997TT is a such a beast (and IMHO, under appreciated to date by the P-Car community). Those are two beautiful cars!!! And regarding skiing, I am 47 and still feel like an 18...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Agreed 100%... Do you ski? Those Porsches (up through 964, and even 993) remind me of the 1980s & 1990s Volkl race skis.... Ski them well, and they are EPIC. Get lazy for a second, and you are flat on your ass. Good fun! The car next to it is a 996 GT3. Now that car is a raw "throw back" 911...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Hello LR4 crew! I'm the thread starter, and am excited to announce that our LR4 has just passed 228,000 miles on the odometer! I have kept a detailed list of my fixes & our spend on this car since new (May 2011), and to date I have used the MityVac for 26 oil changes! With a DIY savings of...

"Suspension Fault - Normal Height Only"

Last month, my car triggered that error code. I took it to the dealer, and for $120 diagnostic they said that I needed a new air compressor for the suspension. Cost? $1500 installed. I got home and onto Google and learned that I could buy a new (but old edition) Hitachi compressor for $800...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Nice to see this thread is still alive! I wanted to report out that we still drive our LR4 as a our primary family car, and we just hit 187,000 miles this week. I've been religious about oil changes at 7500 miles, and the engine is still strong. We've had a few electrical gremlins which has...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

My 2011 LR4 just hit 150,000 miles... Glad that this thread is still alive! I need to update it reflect that the oil change FAQ is for the Land Rover OEM of the Jaguar XF 8-cylinder 5.0L power plant that was put in the early run of LR4s... Of course, the newer 6-cylinder engines will be a...

Wow, the stock tires are horrible in snow!

We are HUGE fans of the Blizzak LM-60 in 255/50R20 which is for the factory 20" wheel. I used to run them ALL YEAR, buying a new set every October. This past year, I decided to go back to dedicated summer tires (a bit more sporty) so only run the Blizzaks from Nov1 - May 1. What makes the...

    Parking Brake - Gremlins?

My wife had an interesting occurrence while driving at highway speeds in the LR4 a few weeks back.... The parking brake (rear right wheel) engaged randomly at 65/75 miles per hour. She said it sounded like a helicopter was flying over head at low altitude, the car began to heavily shudder...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Thanks guys for adding a ton of new information to this thread... And special thanks to umbertob for the YOUTUBE VIDEO! I just completed yet another oil change, and our 2011 LR4 is now at 115,500 miles. I'm averaging an oil change every 8200 miles or so - though my goal is still 7,500 living...

    Brake Pads and Rotors

Our LR4 just hit 106,000 miles so I wanted to provide an update: *Delphi pads have good life left, and should hit 40k like the OEMs. BUT - they SQUEEL like a banshee, and man they produce brake dust! I may swap to OEMs any day now... *British Atlantic's After Market Rotors MAY be starting to...

    brake job cost?

^ That happened to me as well Paul with our LR3 back in Feb 2011. Of course, our brilliant dealer argued with me (don't argue with web forums!) and went on to spend $2K on a new alternator, new wiring harnesses, etc. - and the problem wasn't fixed. "New" tech then changed the brake switch and...

    Tire pressure

I run 42 psi all around with proper alignment and am getting even tire wear. Just hit 106,000 miles last week, and car was new May 2011. -B
