1998 Discovery I engine knocking/oil pump failure. Could I have just lost my engine?

Hi All,

I am new to this forum but i have been reading the posts from you guys.

I have a 98 Discovery and the engine just started making a tapping/knocking noise from the passenger side of the engine under the valve cover.

I first thought it's the timing chain so I kept driving for the next 2 days before the knocking noise became bigger and bigger.. the noise also rises with increasing RPM, if am not mistaken, the noise i am hearing is the pistons going up and down without oil right..?

Can anyone tell me what's the specified oil pressure at idle and 2000 rpm for a 1998 Discovery?
