Design Flaw in Tailgate Latch

2003-current Range Rovers have a sharp edge on the tailgate latch insert or maybe I'm just a clutz - but was wondering if anyone else has ever cut their thumb or finger on that? For example, when you open the top glass, then press the tailgate release button and swing your hand towards the middle of the tailgate to grab it and lower it, sometimes a finger or thumb goes in where the latch area, where there is a sharp metal edge. I've covered it with several layers of black electrical tape to prevent future injuries.
