It looks like my transmission is leaking and it appears there is a small hole. Is that hole supposed to be there?

I was off roading and my front left cv axle broke, I am curious what else could have gotten messed up.

I can provide more pictures or details please just let me know.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I also saw some fluid here, but was unable to see where it came from.

I have wiped it all down to see where more comes from if it hasn’t all leaked out yet.

Top pic is the transmission front pump seal leaking.
Bottom is probably residual fluid from the CV axle being replaced.

Thank you for the quick reply. I am nervous because of the timing of this, it seemed to have happened when I broke the cv axle.

Should I be concerned about internal damage to the transmission?

Looks like it was leaking long before the CV axle failure.
No, transmission won't be damaged from CV axle failure.

Thank you that certainly makes me feel better. It might be worse because I’m parking on an incline now and can’t really move it while waiting on the new axles to arrive.

It’s definitely leaking a lot. I have a new puddle today after cleaning it yesterday.

My plan right now is to replace the axles and new hubs.

I was going to drain/fill the diffs and tcase but I need to be on flat ground first. So I will wait on that.

Then top off the trans fluid so I can at least drive it into my garage.

Not sure I can do this job myself, I might have to see how much a shop would charge. I imagine the labor would be pretty high.

Thanks again for the replies

You're welcome.
Any transmission shop can do the transmission front seal. To R+R the transmission pays 7.0hrs. So, figure that into your costs.
