Hi, newcomer here, but I've been following any news regarding the "LR5" in hopes of getting one. From what I understand, Land Rover is taking the "Discovery" name and making it a class of vehicles starting with the Discovery Sport, a small engine compact SUV to replace the LR2, to be released as a 2016. I would guess (and hope) that a true LR5 will come after that, as a bigger version of the Discovery Sport, the Discovery _______?

I was complete underwhelmed with the Discovery Sport and now I'm looking at an LR4 to fill the gap until a better discovery comes out.

...Discovery X (LR4 replacement) probably will not be announced until 2016 and I think the Defender is as far as 2017 / 2018. FAR too long, in my opinion, but ... just have to wait and see what they come up with.
Ugh...man they really know how to slow roll a release!

And what are going to be the hot platforms in 2017? Diesel, Hybrid, Electric, Hydrogen, etc... I suspect they are planning on being able to support whatever platform will take them to 2020 and beyond. one would hope.

I actually think that they've been releasing more vehicles than any other manufacturer in the last couple years and this is going to keep coming. Without even taking into account the full engine refresh that they did. 2.0 turbo in the LR2 and SCV6 on the LR4 (combined with the 8sp auto). They have a tight timeline and they seem to be holding true to it.
You might be surprised how soon the Discovery will come out as well as their new more utilitarian vehicle.

Like the surprise you'd get when a snail sneaks up behind you and taps you on the shoulder?
"Oh, geez, you're still there? I thought you died months ago!?!"
I appreciate your optimism, but personally I have not been impressed with the timeliness of LR vehicle releases in North America.

Patience is probably key in this matter.

Fingers crossed here for an LR5 with a diesel stateside.

By the looks of things, it's going to be a reality. Far too long overdue in my opinion!

Sure, but it will most likely be a high tech nightmare for long term ownership.

I'm sure that was said about the Disco I, Disco II, LR3, LR4 and so on before their respective launches.

I welcome more gadgets. As technology progresses, parts will get cheaper. Issues are usually not very hard to diagnose now with the plethora of sensors on modern day vehicles.

Maybe one day soon, we'll be able to 3D print replacement parts without leaving the comfort of our home. ;)
