I haven't noticed my half way in ashtray for 7 of the last 9 years. Things you get used to. Now that sunroof rattle on the other hand haunts me every day!!!

If i recall you have to pop the lower console cover up to get the ash ray module out. That being said there is a little catch mechanism in there that can fail eventually. I fixed it by removing the coil spring and then you just have to manually pull it out or in. The module itself is fairly cheap and can be replaced pretty easy.

You can't just buy a new tray. They make you buy the whole assembly for like $150. There's a little plastic tab that breaks off at the back and underneath the tray. I removed the assembly, epoxied a new tab on with the right size and placement, and it stays in now.
