2002 not starting with key

I own a 2002 freelander and it was down for awhile due to needing a head gasket job it was running hot I finally got it fixed and it is not starting with the keys only when the mechanic touched something under the hood it starts I want to know if the key need re programming or if it is the starter called the dealer ship and was advised if it was not the key help me please

Sounds like the starter to me. If the starter has a dead spot in it you need to knock it with a wrench or something to move it just abit for it to start. We had to do this for a few weeks while waiting on a new starter.

That said, there is a guy on island here that has an old Disco with Key FOB issues. He needs his reprogrammed but - his car will start it just shuts down on him randomly.

i know this isnt a huge help but it does sound like a starter.
Especially if it you're still on the original starter.
