We are considering buying a used Land Rover LR3 SE ( with 16,000 miles). I'm wondering if it can pull our 19' ft Bayliner boat. Land Rover specs seem to say Max Trailer Weight is 1,650 lbs. My Bayliner boat/trailer is approx 3,100 lbs and we've never had any issue pulling it with our old Ford Explorer for years. Dealer is also including 1yr / 12,000 mile warranty, but I wonder if it is enough if we find transmission problems? Does anyone have experience with towing this boat weight? Our trailer is basic and has no special brakes. Thanks!

I pull my 2007 21" Larson all over the with no problems. I have a 2008 V8 SE and I can tell you that it is a dream of a vehicle to pull a boat with. This is the only vehicle I had that my wife don't mind driving while pulling the boat. My boat w/ trailer is 4800#. Add to that 35 gallons of gas and at least 300# of crap in the boat. Of course add 2 adults, my 2 kids and 2 friends and it is quite a load. I get about 12 mpg with a soft foot on the pedal.

The 1650 is the recommended max for a trailer with no brakes. I've personally towed about 4500 with no brakes - but very carefully and on side roads. With no emergency stops it was fine. I'd have a little anxiety doing it on a regular basis however.
