......the 4.8 BMW X5 (2005) engine drop into the 2004 Range Rover? What else would need to adapt the BMW engine into the '04 Rangie which has a BMW 4.4 engine?

Well first thing that I would look for is do the moter mounts line up if not than you'll have to do a little fab work. That and the tranni. I do know that they sell conversion kits you might want to check out this site.www.jagsthatrun.com/ I beleive any engine can fit into any vehical it only depends on how much money and fabricating you want to do. You can even put a semi engine into a chevy pick-up it won't look the same when your done but you can do it.
