Does low range automatically engage center lock?

I was trying to hook up to a trailer over the weekend, reversing up an incline. The unpredictable throttle response tied with the slop in the transmission made it pretty tough to go slowly. I kept wanting to switch the transfer case into low range just for the gearing, but worried that it would also lock up at least the center dif, then get bound up on pavement and not release again easily or start doing some damage.

Does anyone know if the system is smart enough to not do that?

It will unlock if you start turning the wheel. Shouldn't lock right away either.

Just pull up your 4x4 page on the display and you can see if it's locked or not. I pull my boat out of my yard all the time using low range.
