2011 LR4.

Helping a buddy with his LR4 that isn't starting. The starter motor relay is not getting a signal to start the engine when we push the push to start the button.

-If we jump the starter relay, the starter kicks in and will crank the engine-- so we know the starter is wired properly and works.
-We replaced the starter relay, confirmed that and the fuse are good.

Right now there are no OBD2 codes with my junk code reader.

Any ideas as to why the ECU is not sending the starter the go signal?

Pull the start button and test to see if it's working.

So today we did this: One person in the cabin, foot on brake, push the start button. At the same time, the other people jumped the starter relay to make the engine crank. The engine would start, but then it would shut off after you release the push to start button.

What is the cheapest tool that would let us scan the ECU and clear any codes that are in there? My OBD2 is not showing any.

Any run of the mill OBD2 scanner should show the codes, I would think.

I'm guessing that a GAP iidtool or similar would be able to look a bit deeper?

Well, not sure it will let you look deeper, but it will let you reset the codes, as well as do a whole lot more.
