I have found that OE pads do not last as long and a set of high-quality aftermarket pads. 12,000 miles seem way too soon all the same though.

I'm getting ready to go overlanding again but far, far away from my indy mechanic and the rear brakes have always squeaked after putting the Ferodos on. I had new rear rotors to install and I hoped that would solve the squeal noise when stopping in reverse, but it turns out I don't want to spend hundreds to get the star wheel backed off or $400 to have my shop put the rotors on.

So today I put the Land Rover brand pads back on the rear and it does not make a sound during braking back there anymore. Definitely noticeable on first brake and every braking application thereafter. It was a little embarrasing to have a shiny LR4 with squeaky brakes in the yuppie areas of town.

I also rotated the tires front-to-back. I go for a drive and I get back into my parking spot and the front left gave me a big squeal that I hadn't heard or maybe I assumed previously the noise was coming from the rear when it really wasn't. I might end up removing the front pads too, I'll give it more time w/out the rear squealers on. The top pad is Ferodo and the design is different. I'm curious about the swept area on it and why they molded it differently.

I have a set of Ferodo rear pads that I bought a few years ago, waiting for the existing rear pads to wear out. I just opened the box and they look like your lower pad. I have Ferodo FDB4105. See photo below.

However, I am seeing other Ferodo pads which are shaped like your "top" pad. Now I'm wondering what the difference is...

There is a VIN split on rear brakes for the 2010s although I believe it has more to do with pad thickness

MicroCat is super confusing (to me) for the rear brakes. Seems like there are several different part numbers across various chassis break points. And, MicroCat won't accept my VIN to pinpoint which part number matches my chassis number.

I assume since my chassis is AA546xxx that I don't select the "E" group despite mentioning air suspension... so my chassis falls into the first line item. I think.

If I'm reading this correctly, the (original) JLR part numbers are as follows. These may have been superceded to a different p/n:

LR015519 = As of chassis AA000001
LR016808 = As of chassis AA547441
LR032377= As of chassis BA596158
LR032377 = As of chassis DA000001
LR055455 = As of chassis DA699650 <-- Possibly the odd-shaped "oval" Ferodos ??

I pulled the front Ferodos off today and put the Land Rover brand pads back on because the front left squeaks when pulling into a parking stall and the pads that I pulled off probably had 20k+ miles left and never made any noise at all.

In the bottom pic the left side is the Land Rover brand. The backing plate shim looks like different quality on the Land Rover brand and amazingly there was a lot less dust and more miles on the Land Rover pads.

There are different rear pads for the 2012s and older and 2013s and newer.

That's good to know. So I have 77,000 miles on the OEM brake rotors... I know, that's a lot and they are probably out of spec. They have only recently started to have a slight vibration while braking at higher speeds and lower brake pressures. I've replaced the rear brake pads twice, and the...

I pulled the Ferodo fronts because of a squeak and the squeak didn't silence completely. The noise did not seem to be caused by the pad differences. I might try putting the old pad brackets that fit onto the caliper on and see if that changes anything. The rears are still quiet and I'm enjoying it every time I stop now. It was a bit of a scene before since some people would look.

The front Ferodos started squealing massively. Yesterday, the harder I braked the louder the sound became so it was a situation were I didn't want to hit the brakes while driving around lol. Two things had changed since the brakes were fine, someone was working on the rotor and brakes changing irrelevant parts and separately the ambient temperature changed. I think its temperature related because if I drove in 2nd and used compression braking to slow down, that allowed the brakes to cool which reduced the sound.

It was 100F, first time for the year and I was doing a lot of braking, but I'm not sure which caused the problem so what I did was went back to my old ways (pre-Land Rover) and permatex sprayed the crap out of the pads with stop squeak, a little over 1/2 can on 4 pads. I had tried both Ferodos and Land Rover brand plus new rotors in the front and they all made noise, but the Land Rover pads did not make noise when I first got it in July last year. Since the Ferodos looked the same and had another 5k miles on them I used that brand to install this time.

I went for a drive and I don't hear the fronts, but now the back squeal when stopping in reverse. I swear that scenario was working just fine until I worked on the front lol. I might end up doing the rears with permatex and today the forecast is to be warm again.
