I'm getting ready to go overlanding again but far, far away from my indy mechanic and the rear brakes have always squeaked after putting the Ferodos on. I had new rear rotors to install and I hoped that would solve the squeal noise when stopping in reverse, but it turns out I don't want to spend hundreds to get the star wheel backed off or $400 to have my shop put the rotors on.

So today I put the Land Rover brand pads back on the rear and it does not make a sound during braking back there anymore. Definitely noticeable on first brake and every braking application thereafter. It was a little embarrasing to have a shiny LR4 with squeaky brakes in the yuppie areas of town.

I also rotated the tires front-to-back. I go for a drive and I get back into my parking spot and the front left gave me a big squeal that I hadn't heard or maybe I assumed previously the noise was coming from the rear when it really wasn't. I might end up removing the front pads too, I'll give it more time w/out the rear squealers on. The top pad is Ferodo and the design is different. I'm curious about the swept area on it and why they molded it differently.

I have a set of Ferodo rear pads that I bought a few years ago, waiting for the existing rear pads to wear out. I just opened the box and they look like your lower pad. I have Ferodo FDB4105. See photo below.

However, I am seeing other Ferodo pads which are shaped like your "top" pad. Now I'm wondering what the difference is...

There is a VIN split on rear brakes for the 2010s although I believe it has more to do with pad thickness

MicroCat is super confusing (to me) for the rear brakes. Seems like there are several different part numbers across various chassis break points. And, MicroCat won't accept my VIN to pinpoint which part number matches my chassis number.

I assume since my chassis is AA546xxx that I don't select the "E" group despite mentioning air suspension... so my chassis falls into the first line item. I think.

If I'm reading this correctly, the (original) JLR part numbers are as follows. These may have been superceded to a different p/n:

LR015519 = As of chassis AA000001
LR016808 = As of chassis AA547441
LR032377= As of chassis BA596158
LR032377 = As of chassis DA000001
LR055455 = As of chassis DA699650 <-- Possibly the odd-shaped "oval" Ferodos ??

I pulled the front Ferodos off today and put the Land Rover brand pads back on because the front left squeaks when pulling into a parking stall and the pads that I pulled off probably had 20k+ miles left and never made any noise at all.

In the bottom pic the left side is the Land Rover brand. The backing plate shim looks like different quality on the Land Rover brand and amazingly there was a lot less dust and more miles on the Land Rover pads.

There are different rear pads for the 2012s and older and 2013s and newer.
