Words of advise, replace the flex plate whenever you mess with it.
I don't know if its me or what but anytime I have removed the bolts from the flex plate
I have had to replace it shortly after. This will be my 4th one. Also its a bugger to figure out. It sounds like a liner slapping around or a rod bearing letting loose. Holding a ghetto stethoscope or even a real steth up to the bell still won't reveal the flex plate problem. What I have found which works for me is that if you pull the access plug on the tranny and hold a pipe in the direction of the hole it is clear as a bell. If you look in the history of my posts you can see the first time that I had a problem with the flex plate and the incredibly hard time it was to find where the sound was coming from. Good luck all, that job sucks and I'm doing it again after just dropping the engine in 500 miles ago.
