How do I treat rusty muffler pipes

Looks like the rear muffler pipes (under the heat protectors) have surface rust on them... Are these stainless steel or are they your average steel pipes.

Does it make sense to sand them lightly and perhaps paint them with high temp paint to reduce the likelihood of rust formation. I will probably be dipping this baby in salt water to launch my boat and I am worried that this will cause damage to the metal components of the LR3 . . . .

Your thought and/or experiences would be appreciated.

Don't worry about them, at some point they will get too thin, from rust and you replace them. Sanding and any sort of treatment won't work and they will just smell like burning rubber after wards.

Yeah...and once they do go out you can replace them with a nice aftermarket cat-back setup!
