Hi,

We're looking into a 2008 RR supercharged (4.2L V8) with around 20,000 miles. We're well versed in Audi and BMW - my husband is a dedicated do-it-yourselfer - but have no experience with Land Rover. I'd like to branch out.

What should we be checking when buying, and what should we expect will need fixing over the next xx years or xx,000 miles?

I hope I'm not asking a repeat question. I didn't find anything when searching the site, and I know how much my husband appreciates the wisdom of these forums.

Thanks for the help,
Carla

In Range Rover 2002-2009 years range there is a well known (and well expensive) issue about the transmission chain and here I am referring to transfer box, propshaft and intermediate coupling. So a specialist check on these components are most required before buying. Chances are that in the past these components already have been changed and now the more important thing to look after is if they are well balanced, fixed and continuing lubricated.

Make sure that all of the electronics work, and that the vehicle received all of the software updates - makes a huge difference.

Make sure that the vehicle was serviced every 6 months. As this was complimentary, I would run from a vehicle that was not (e.g., negligent owner).

Make sure the Brakes are in good shape. This is a $1.5K - $2K expense, and should be factored into the sale price.

Our 2008 FFRR and 2008 RRS S\C have been very reliable, more so than many Japanese and Luxury brands - several years out from the model year change and great dealer service maintenance.
