Looking at buying a 97 (or so) discovery

Okay, I'm looking for advice from you that know these vehicles...

I've owned 4 wheel drive vehicles for the past 20 years so I understand they cost more than cars to maintain. I am recently divorced and my ex got the new Durango so I am now looking for a cheap SUV. I need it to be reliable for my kids and I.

I've got $6000 to spend and that seems to buy 97 and older disco's with 125,000 + miles in Portland, Oregon.

What do I need to look out for?

Hey everyone, I am new here and had some questions on a Discovery, I found this one: http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/i...hip_view_name=coasttocoastpa&car_id=197003501 it is $6456, I have not seen it in person but I will probably Friday, but I was looking for some opinions on this particular model.

IT sounds like a good deal, as long as it is nice in person.

Here's my advice. Don't buy one! They are POS! As soon as one thing is fixed another breaks. Here's how bad it really is... I can't even get rid of mine!!!
