Position of constant gear on gearbox's layshaft

The Parts Catalogue and the Repair Operation Manual for Series III show the constant gear on the layshaft of gearboxes in opposite positions (see the two drawings below). The parts catalogue (left) shows the extended part of the gear facing the bellhouse, whereas the repair manual shows the extended part facing rear.

Is one of the drawings wrong? Can anyone enlighten me on this?

I'd have to look at one to be sure, but I'm pretty sure that it will only go one way. Since the gear has a helical cut it will only go on in one direction and still mesh with the other gear.
