I am in the process of planning to build a raised-air intake on
my '96 Disco. Does anyone out there know what the minimum
diameter should be for the tubing? The input to the airbox is 2"
and the stock intake is smaller than that. Will 2" pipe supply enough
air at high RPM's? Obviously, it supplies enough with the stock set-up,
albeit with a much smaller distance to pull air. I am planning on building
a forward-facing air ram at the top of the snorkel. Keep in mind that
I live in Colorado and frequently off-road at altitude.

Thanks for the Help!

In a word - nope. Your exhause lines are 2.25" - you need supply at least as much, and more if you planning to gain anything.

so 3 is the number and the number shall be 3...

Adam,
I used to live i Littelton, I know what you mean about the lack of air. I would suggest that the ram be adjustable so when you are in the dust, you can reverse it. Also you might look at installing a cone filter inside the box, I read once that this will also give a little better air flow with a twist. Yeh and think 2 1/2 to 3"s for a intake.
Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I'm assuming that I will have to increase the size
of the input into the airbox, right? Will a 3" solid pipe fit in the fender? Or do
I go to flex? I would like to keep as much of it solid as possible.

I am not sure how large a pipe will fit into the fender, my concern with flex, if it has a ribbed interior lining this will sloww the air flow down over a smaller pipe with a smooth center. Just a thought.

Dont think it will make inside fender completely. Its thinner at the top, where you want to put air ways... Look at the mantec & safari - they all sticking out. I guess there is reason :)
