Rear Wiper

Learned something new about my 2011 LR4 Lux tonight. It was raining pretty hard and when I backed up, the rear wiper came on, even though I had it off. I guess the car figured that if I am backing up in the rain the rear wiper needs to be on so I can see what's behind me. Normally, when I have the rear wiper engaged it will periodically swipe. I would estimate once every 30 seconds, or so. I'm guessing that's because rain isn't directly hitting the rear tailgate glass. When I backed up, the rear wiper was swiping constantly. Not at a high rate of speed, but there was no pause between swipes. Anyone else notice this?

it only does this if you have the front wipers on (even in rain sense). It is useful. My same vintage VWs do the same.
