Car was purchased new and has 113,000 kilometres up.
Recently it would not start so I sent it to the dealer on a tow truck. (4th trip on tow truck!)
They said it wanted (and fitted) a chassis mounted fuel pump. This had been replaced 40,000 earlier, but OK I got a new one.
After fitting that they called and said that the car needed a number 4 injector so they removed the manifold and fitted that.
Then thay called to say the car was running fine on the road but had a miss at idle and maybe it needs number 2 injector.
I collected the car and it had a dead cylinder and not a miss at idle.
So I thought I could not continue like this so I removed the inlet manifold only to find that they had re-assembled with all ports restricted by at least 15 percent by sludge.
So I had that cleaned and scraped as much sludge as I could from the cylinder head ports.
Removed all injectors and had then eletrostatically cleaned and tested and all were good and even so I fitted a new one to number 2 as the dealer suggested just to be sure.
Car ran like new for 50 kilometres and thesn back to 5 cylinders.
Number 5 was dead so I fitted a new injector.
Ran like new for 20 kilometres and then the engine just about shook out of the chassis.
After another 25 k's it ran on 6 again.
Next day it would not start so I decided to drain the tank and ensure that fuel was good and tank was clean.
Found that the in-tank fuel pump had obviously been damaged during original asssembly so I fitted an new one and fresh fuel.
Car will not start!
I have a Faultmate Diagnostic and have ensured that all injector codes are updated through this system
Fuel filter is new and I have checked the Fuel Pressure on outlet of the filter and that is within specs
HELP PLEASE

Read your post while considering buying a Faultmate.

You drove for 20Km like new then the engine shook while driving for a few seconds? ( interrupted fuel pressure causes hesitation) and you got back home and installed the new fuel pump and fuel pressure is normal and the car does not start.

Does the Faultmate tell you what is going on with fuel pressure and injector timing in real time while starting the car? or does the car have to be running for the Faultmate to make a diagnosis?

Did you get it fixed? by yourself?

I own a 2001 4.6HSE gasoline version for 4 years with nearly identical miles as yours 115Kmi. I am not too familiar with the RR deisel engines. The TD6 injector flows fuel into the cylinder rather than the intake manifold.

Rust in injectors

Having had a back operation I could do no more work on engine myself so It was sent by truck to local dealer who could not start it after a week. I then took one injector that I had removed due to a misfire after only being installed for 50 kilometres after having had it tested, had iiot re-tested and it would not fire. Dismantled it and it had rust inside. Ultimately the problem was from fuel purchased at one location over several months. (21 times the allowable moisture limit and 14.4% animal/vegetable oil)
Got the dealer to remove all injectors including 3 that were new (done around 100 kilometres at the most) and had all dismatled and serviced with more rust found. Got the car back and it had a knock in the engine which was not there before. Dealer reckoned it was a valve lifter but it certainly was not. Then told me that how did they know that the engine was not knocking when I sent the car there. That made me just a little angry. Took the car to an independant L/Rover shop and it turned out that the dealer had left a sensor disconnected at the rear of the engine and this was detrimental to the fuel mapping. Dealer has not offered any re-imbursement for that account to fix their work.
Within 2 days the automatic transmission failed (114,00 K's) and the specialist shop has had the car for 3 weeks and have fitted two transmissions, rebuilt the torque convertor twice, changed valve bodies and the car shudders at around 80 KPH.
Am I about over this car that I got new? I am getting close. Thanks for the interest.
