I've had my '01 Disco II for about 6 weeks now. It has quickly become my favorite vehicle of all time.
I was surprised and somewhat disappointed, though, that the 4-speed auto did not have a lock-up clutch, especially for such a sophisticated, computer-controlled drivetrain. 70 mph equaled 2,850 rpm.
Well, I like to upgrade. So today, I replaced my gauge cluster with one from an '03, to get the current Land Rover gauge graphics. And, lo and behold, I now have a lock-up clutch! 4th still runs at 2,850 rpm, but it drops to 2,500 when the transmission locks. You can also tell at lower speeds by the much lower exhaust note.
Just sharing for fun, but can't wait to find out how these are connected. Will keep you posted.
