Hi Dedicated Disco Owners,
This is my first post although I've been a dicovery driver for over 10 years and had an old series 1 Land Rover before that. Generally I've had very little trouble.
I have a 2000 Discovery Series II
This year has been expensive with my 4.0lt V8 cracking the block for no good reason. Now one of the transfer case bearings back retaining ring cracked and allowed a roller to find it's ways into the the gears. Ouch!
I have had the TC rebuilt with all new gears bearing etc but it has a really bad whine from around 60kph getting to high pitched very annoying scream at 100kph.
Any thoughts on why the gears are whining.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
By the way I replaced the motor with a 4.6Lt rangie motor.
Stuff Toyota Oh what a feeling!! and better fuel economy!!
Cheers

We have tried the standard spec gear oil. Then changed to a heavy grade.
Unfortunately no change

the tranfer case on all discos should use a gear oil to API GL-5 specs. 75W / 90R
This is what was first used then have tried a heavy oil.
I believe a spacer the mechainc cut maybe too long causing the gears to jam together hence the whine. Any thoughts?
Cheers
