So, I'm at 75k, and at this mileage it is recommended to change some fluids:
transfer case, locking rear diff.

From the manual:
-----------------------------------------------------
--Main gearbox
Specification -LRN13754.
Land Rover recommends Shell ATF M1375.4.
--Transfer gearbox
Specification - LRN13754.
Land Rover recommends Shell TF 0753.
--Front differential
Specification - LRN7591.
Land Rover recommends SAF XO.
--Locking rear differential
Specification - LRN5070.
Land Rover recommends Castrol SAF carbon
Mod Plus.
-------------------------------------------------------

So, my question - what fluids has everyone used in place of these? Or does everyone buy the fluids from the dealer?
Are there "generics" of some sort that would work just fine? i.e. Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil or something?

Thanks...

Naiive question: Is the transfer case and the center diff basically the same thing?

...and I wonder why the fluid requirement ONLY for the locking rear diff? When does the front get done?

From what I read, for an 06 LR3:
Change automatic transmission fluid and filter (10 years)
Change transfer gearbox oil (at 75k and 150k miles)
Change front and rear axle oil (10 years)
Change locking differential oil (at 75k and 150k miles)

I just changed my diffs since I hit 75K miles. Considering they wanted $600 to do this at the dealership I think I ended up ahead of the game spending $57.00 for 3 liters of saf xo from the dealer and $8.99 for an oil injector from pep boys. here's some pics...

I was surprise at how much junk was stuck to the magnetic drain plugs...

Same part after cleaning...

Word of advice: wear gloves; stuff is nasty and can damage paint.
Easiest to access front diff by cranking wheels to the right...
Use an SUV jack to make sure suspension didn't decide to "adjust"

Done.

I tried searching for sources of the obscure names given for the oil requirements. I even went so far as to contact Shell to find an alternative. No luck. Could you go to Discount Auto Parts or Pep boys and get all of the fluids? Maybe, but I've heard of some horror stories with non factory spec oils in other European cars. After searching and thinking, I went to the dealer and bought them all.

OK, so I broke down and bought the locking rear diff and transfer case fluid from the dealer. He said the front just required a standard synthetic. I've changed these out.

Now - how about the transmission? What mileage is everyone changing tranny fluid at? And are we buying the fluid from the dealership as well (i think they quoted me 6 quarts or so at $30 something a piece)? Or is there another safe option for transmission fluid?

The only fluid LR fluid I replaced was the T-Case. I use Royal purple, Amsoil, or Redline on front and rear diffs and engine.

What's the actual SAE weights of the fluid for the F/R diffs?? ('06 LR3 HSE) I'm also a fan of Royal Purple and would like to drop the old fluid for RP.

ZF Lifeguard

I got my tranny fluid from Atlantic British, 20.00 a quart of ZF Lifeguard when they had a flash sale.

If you wait they always have flash sales with 10% off certain needs for your truck, frame, oils, wipers, etc...
