What is the widest tire that I can safely put on my stock 16"x7" Wheels? I currently have the OEM size 235/70/16. I was planning on putting on 255/65/16 - Anyone have any experience with this?

Aren't those stock 16" D2 tires?
235/70R16 = 235mm wide x 164.5mm "tall" (rim to edge)
255/65R16 = 255mm wide x 165.75mm "tall"
An inch wider, assuming my calculations are correct. Basically the same height. Why bother? Why not do 245/75R16 instead?

My 235/70/16 are almost bald, so I want to go with a MUCH wider tire than stock, but I don't want them much taller...
