LR4 and the dreaded timing chain issue

I've found that chain slop is more evident on warm start-ups--not cold. Metal shrinks when cooled (chains will shrink eliminating slack if it is minimal). To be safe, I'd take it for a test drive (long enough to reach op temp), turn it off, wait 5-10 minutes, then turn it back on and listen...

Multiple repairs on a 70K miles 2013 LR4: what can I expect next

If it makes you feel any better, here's what I've replaced on my 2011 LR4 with one additional year of ownership than you: 1. Rear sway bar links 2. Air compressor 3. Parking brake module 4. Battery 5. Alternator 6. Front calipers, brakes & rotors 7. Rear calipers, brakes & rotors 8. Front hubs...

    Brake fluid flush

    1. Don't let the pressure drop too far on the pressure bleeder 2. Ensure you have plenty of brake fluid in the pressure bleeder 3. Ensure the feed hose is fully submerged 3. Ensure you have a tight seal on your drain line around the bleeder valve 4. Ensure the drain line doesn't have a fissure...

DPF Delete Kit: Worth it or risky modification?

No experience in this matter but I do know enough that I would not attempt this if I lived in a state that requires emissions inspections. The risk of it not passing inspection down the road would be too great. Unless the following three conditions were met 1) the shop has experience in the DPF...

Lower Control Arms Poly Bushing Upgrade only one bushing?

Maybe he was cheap and/or had access to a floor press. Replacing a single bushing vs. buying a whole new control arm is a repair where the money saved isn't worth the extra time involved in pressing out/in the old/new bushings. Especially if you live in the rust belt.

Buying Used LR4 versus Mercedes G550

I've said this before: The LR4 / Discovery 4 is the peak generation in the Discovery platform evolution. Wife is asking for a G wagon but I'm trying to convince her to go with a Defender.

    Wind, trees, alpine roof...oh my

The problem with all these vehicles downsizing to V6's from V8's is that they are all turbo or supercharged to make up the difference. Adds a lot of plumbing and complexity (esp. turbo) to engine and no linear power. Just off the line boost. These vehicles are too heavy for a V6.

    Help Identify This Noise

Looks like your oil cap is vibrating in the video. Make sure it is tightened down and not cross threaded. Or could just be the noisy fuel injectors on this DI engine. But I agree stethoscope would be best to zero in.

2012 LR4 HSE weird vibration passenger front

Steering wheel wobble is almost always related to a wheel balance issue. A reoccurring wheel vibration during a certain MPH range is almost certainly related to a wheel out of balance. If both are happening at the same MPH range (especially when accelerating)--it is definitely a wheel out of...

    Brake Problem

Check the brake pads for uneven wear from the old calipers. Or, you could have air in one side of the brake lines from when the new calipers were installed. But these two things would cause pulling rain or shine.

2014 Land Rover LR4, suspension faults after compressor and valve block work

Best to always replace the air compressor with the same brand as the old unit. Hitachi w/Hitachi, AMK w/AMk and so forth. You are getting a LOT of faults--if your battery & alternator are good, than my guess is your mechanic left something disconnected.

    1999 Disco sunroof leak

No, there are other issues than can cause a leak. The Disco 1 & 2 sunroofs leak for one or more of three reasons: 1) Clogged drain lines (easy fix) 2) Broken or failed adhesive on drip pan gutter corners (requires dropping headliner & drip pans) 3) Dry/crumbling factory sealant between sunroof...

Need some help from the experts to identify this ticking on a '16 LR4

Sounds like its coming from your supercharger. However, Direct Injection engines can be "tickety". Kind of like a diesel. I don't think its your timing chains. Try running a scan tool see if its has pending codes.

2016 LR4 Under body blowoff or "air burst" sound, is this a dead compressor sound?

Doesn't sound significant enough to be a concern. I thought your video was going to show a long blast of air like what happens on my LR4 when I have the tailgate open for a 30+ seconds. EAS lets out some air to lower the rear for easier loading/unloading. It is an intuitive system. The...

2016 Kaikoura LR4 HSE LUX- Will I ever find one?

If you are looking for a perfect used car you will be looking for a long time. As long as the engine and transmission are operating properly (e.g., no ticking or rattling from engine, transmission shifts smoothly especially through lower gears) and there is no structural rust--pull the trigger...
