This is the old AMK compressor which was installed by the dealership in 2019 and removed in April 2024 notice the corrosion, especially on the bolts (which are torx)-

AMK Suspension Compressor Replacement and Rebuild

Current Issue. I therefore now have a torn down AMK air compressor with broken piston and am searching online for ideas. I have found a number of what appear to be aftermarket / Chinese replacement pistons for the compressor as well as another company in the UK (i6automotive) which appears to...

AMK Suspension Compressor Replacement and Rebuild

Available Resources. There are actually a good number of things online to help with these compressors. For example, there is one thread at the DISCO 3 forum: https://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/amk-compressor-rebuild-guide-193082.html And a full guide by i6automotive about tearing the...

AMK Suspension Compressor Replacement and Rebuild

Background: My 2010 LR4 HSE (5.0) was originally fitted with the Hitachi air compressor for the suspension. This unit actually worked really well until 2018 when it started huffing and puffing. I didn’t have an opportunity to service it so it essentially died in early 2019 (it probably could...

AMK Suspension Compressor Replacement and Rebuild

Question: Does anyone have any experience or knowledge to share in rebuilding the AMK compressors? These were the replacements for the OEM Hitachi units originally in the LR4 (and so also were fitted for the LR3 as well as Range Rovers from this period)?

Rear Tire Carrier - Any Regrets in Daily Life?

Which is of course not the real reason why folks are actually buying these accessories (Function): we are buying them because they look cool. Dirt Lifestyle did a build on an DISCO 2 several years ago where he custom built a spare tire carrier. The whole truck looked great and drove really...

Rear Tire Carrier - Any Regrets in Daily Life?

Sorry - Ronny Dahl Not Robert. And to answer the original question: I have no regrets for Daily life (but my wife does!)

Rear Tire Carrier - Any Regrets in Daily Life?

Hello Tribe, Fun topic. So I installed the Kymar steel bumper in 2015 and I like it...but my wife hates it. I had put it on because I wanted the heavy bumper as well as an addition (i.e. second) spare. I had a couple instances where I shredded a tire (off roading in Africa) and didn't have a...

    Cooling System/Crossover Pipe

I am pretty old fashioned and like the paper copies too; that said, being old fashioned, the ChatGPT summary looks pretty good (and I have no idea how to do that). Here are a couple of thoughts: 1. as @djkaosone notes: use only OEM or better and get from a reputable seller. I use Atlantic...

2016 low brake fluid warning after long non-use

FACT: braided stainless steel lines are not buying anything other than they look cool. And I will admit that the looks just matter to me...which is fundamentally the reason I am using them (instead of some kind of racing performance). They might be a little tougher and more robust than plastic...

2016 low brake fluid warning after long non-use

Dear @Frank8 - Please keep us posted on this issue. I am rebuilding my brake system along with a pretty massive refurb / service project on my 2010 LR4 (5.0L) HSE. However, I am not replacing the steel brake lines and only doing basic services on the master cylinder (but replacing the pump...

    Cooling System/Crossover Pipe

The forum is not the only courage you can unbottle...there are quite a number of YouTube out there (between Disco 4's and LR4's) of folks working on the cooling system.

    Increasing approach angle?

Dear @powershift Great questions and while I run the OEM front skid plate (I believe it is from ManTech and called the "Steering Guard"), the gang at Tactical 4X4 makes a whole steel front bumper with winch mounts and such which supposedly improves your approach angle. See -...

Help in identifying part - Timing Chain Service

Thanks @weezer! And excellent point. Here is where we are right now - So, we have put the cylinder heads back on and here is where that pesky oil restrictor is located (the plastic piece). Since these fits behind the camshaft variators on the FRONT of the cylinder heads (I think I...

    Head Removal

And this is where we are now (mid-February 2025): heads reinstalled on the engine and properly torqued to spec. We put new High Pressure Fuel Pumps on and are now waiting for these silly "oil restrictors" before putting the camshafts back in and tightening things up on top to begin resetting the...

What the head looks like as the tear-down continues - you can see the valve seals there (the Atlantic British kit comes with new valves seals and I highly recommend replacing all those for this job).

Pulling out the valves for cleaning...we had to improvise since I didn't have the correct valve spring compression tool (yikes!)

    Head Removal

This is one of the head gaskets; no issues with it but you can see the wear. I bought the Atlantic British kit which comes with Elring gaskets - steel ones - which are excellent and we had no issues installing (let's see if there are any leaks when we get this thing going...!) One note is that...

    Head Removal

And this is the state of affairs after pulling the heads off and taking a look at both sides - one shows the valves and springs and the other shows the interior of the piston facing valves. You can see the carbon build up in the piston heads here and the difference between the intake and exhaust...

    Head Removal

So here is what things looked like when taking all the covers and everything off. Heads are on and you can clearly see the twin overhead cams with the variators and timing chains. The golden color is from the oil on the aluminum but nothing to worry about.

    Head Removal

Nike may have the best motto for your case: Just do it! That said, I am getting a LOT of help and not actually turning wrenches, so truth be told – I am more of an invested and interested observer for all this right now than the technical guy. Oh, the shame! But, I was in the “getting parts”...
