    LR4 Brakes and Rotors

Well, I just got new slotted Stoptech coated rotors and their pads x 4 for an Audi S4 avant for maybe $500 in parts. Do you have ANY interest in DIY? I used to do nothing at all on vehicles but the brakes were no where near as hard as I'd assumed for years. I don't know WTF "ceramic gold"...

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

For the LR3 I should also mention that I mostly use a non-studded Michelin E load range MS2 in the winter version and it's been fine. It's basically the tire before the newer Defender I think or similar. It looks identical to the normal M/S 2 but is softer compound. These are both in the 32"...

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

It's hard to judge the Nokian WRG2 due to it only having been used on the Audi which has a several case of inside edge wear on the rear and even a decent amount on the front. However, they went on one fall I think in 2009 after having worn through the factory high performance contis on a trip...

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

In actual "snow", the Nokian All-weather tires are fantastic like you experienced. It's on frozen hard surfaces (obviously also during much colder temps) where their true winter tires pull ahead. I used full life of the Nokian WRG2 on an Audi S4 avant and during deep snow they were insanely...

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

Yup, great when new but the lr3 independent suspension should kill the inside edge long before the whole tire is done. I switched to symmetrical directional tires for my BMW winters and the Audi so that after 2-3 seasons I'll have them flipped for nearly 30% more total mileage/life. The Audi...

Tire Size DII HSE w TerraFirm 2" Lift

The roughly 31.5" BFG aT Ko2 265/75-16 is what's on my d2 at the moment using factory 16" alloy which do of course rub the radius arms and I'd call it more than minor. The reduced turning radius caused makes it more of a major rub but of course you can just stop turning to eliminate it entirely.

Did you look at parts diagram on a dealer website? Try Land Rover Meriam or similar that have discounted parts.

Bump for location update: they are in Cary, NC and a deal would need to be local.

    LR3 starter: DIY replacement completed

Aside from all the crap to remove to make access easy, the job was really simpler than expected. There are only 2 mounting bolts and 2 wiring connections. One has to be careful with the clip connector or course. . I got a new Denso unit from Britparts Utah and saved roughly $900 over a...

Red Clay Rally, The Rovers are Coming

Agreed. I think the perfect largest size tire for the lr3/4 plus of course normal trimming would be 275/75-18 on an 8" rim with only enough offset to clear the A arm at full extension.

Spacers. Yes or No? If yes, then how?

Ok. This makes more sense now and would be the only way that bigger tire on the lr4 would actually work fully.

Spacers. Yes or No? If yes, then how?

Basically not possible to have 100% movements with the tire that wide and that diameter with them also not tucked in. They will run into the fender flares upon full compression. This does not happen often as most videos and my own experience shows it takes quite the situation to fully stuff...

Aluminum. Mine are Rasta but I don't think they are in the US anymore. There are some others out there for sure.

How to get unstuck in deep water?

Truly cost effective basics avoiding the bling of $$$ racks, bumpers, winches, etc: 1st-shovel, a stock vehicle with street tires can benefit the most from a shovel 2nd-waffle boards 3rd-proper tire and wheel (this means 18", if you're trying to use a 19, well, none of this matters) and a size...

How to get unstuck in deep water?

They're only going to help with skidding on hard items but when you cannot even see every potential thing under even shallow muddy water, they're possibly more important there than on dry ground where you could be more careful on choosing a line. When there's mud and some unknown, it's likely...

How to get unstuck in deep water?

The maxtrax are good where their good, but I prefer to have my gear do multiple functions. Basically, the rigid choices do everything a maxtrax can but far more. The HD Mantec ladders are like $600 though and that is one reason you rarely see them. They are even more insanely awesome though...

How to get unstuck in deep water?

on a traditional diesel, you could set up the vehicle to literally continue running while buried in 5 feet of water. Ours are not that.... the lr3/4 snorkles you see are best helping to draw slightly less dusty air from higher up when traveling behind others. Even if you were to perfectly...

How to get unstuck in deep water?

I resisted saying at first, but now cannot help myself: If you've stopped, in "deep" water, you're in a world of trouble that seriously should have been avoided. What is "deep" begs the question here. Above door sill so it flows in upon your exit? Dang that sounds like a bad day to me for an...

Spacers. Yes or No? If yes, then how?

Just remember, Rods are useless unless combined with strut spacers, for which they are then actually required to make computers happy. Get an electronic means of lifting when needed so the vehicle can spend most of it's time where it was engineered to live, factory neutral ride height.

Spacers. Yes or No? If yes, then how?

You should realize you will loose all turning and compression limits. The further out you set tire that width, the worse you make it. They are using that on steel springs which gives up all the travel range already. The only way that works without cutting a ton of stuff. To tell you in a...

How to get unstuck in deep water?

Your post made me think of something, yet another winning feature of waffle boards which I'll describe after a mini-rant. A lot of people new to this will only suggest Maxtrax or similar but in my opinion they are one of the most hyped but not all that hot items I've seen come along in 20...

Red Clay Rally, The Rovers are Coming

Cool story/trip! Why'd you choose that wider tire vs something that would tuck in better like a 285/70-18 which is almost 34" but with a section 11.5" ? It's perfect on an 8" wide wheel. After test fitting a few sizes, I landed on that size for factory wheels that fit right in amazingly using...

Upper Control Arm Striking air shock Phenomenon

I ran my struts to maybe 120-140k so I'm sure they were well worn out considering the weight. I think only one front air spring aluminum case had a slight scrape on it. The whole "puncture" thing sounds more like a one time thing for some odd reason or maybe just not relevant to USA builds.

17" Wheels - How I got them on my LR3

Yeah, it's simple really, just get that factory wheel, change the brakes to the smaller rotors and carrier, done. The brakes parts will be found in the "v6 usa" section of a parts diagram as should the wheels. Rovers North can also help with this project.
