Burning smell coming thru heat vent
Getting back to the burning smell and dragging brake issue, my average mpg is up about 2mpg since I had all four brakes fixed. I might be imagining it, but the vehicle feels different. This is based on two more tankfuls of gas. Any more info on a tsb? Would the dealer service dept know? -

Yeah, we’ve lived in Vermont for almost 40 years and never had this problem with any previous vehicle. I guess that’s why I didn’t think of it at first. I just drove down to NYC and I think my gas mileage is better by a couple miles/gal but it’s not a fair test since part of the trip was thru... -

20 degrees? Try below zero. All our outdoor spigots are turned off and drained and hoses empty. Water wouldn’t get from the spigot to the nozzle in this weather. Do any of you guys wash your brakes regularly? On another happier note I drove from VT to NYC today, leaving my home early this A.M... -

I bet it does to some degree. I took my LR4 to the same indie for its annual inspection and I asked them to look at the rear brakes while it was in the shop. The calipers weren’t releasing fully or moving smoothly in the tracks. Yep, they were rubbing lightly (no burning smell yet). This tells... -

That’s a very good point. My problem started some time after I drove my unit thru a lot of deep snow and slush. I wonder how many LRs are being driven with lightly dragging brakes and the owner isn’t aware of it? The whole mechanism looked very susceptible to getting hung up on road crud. -

I can’t tell about brake dust. I’ve been driving in two inches of salty slush for a while. But the calipers were sticking. They showed me when they had the wheel off. Ha! Just took it to local indie. On both front brakes the pads were binding. There was a lot of crud and salt and the pads weren’t moving freely. Caught it in time and rotors weren’t damaged. Frank Never heard grinding or squealing or any noise whatsoever. The binding must have been... -
