I have never before taken off the plastic shield that covers the front tow hook. I needed to this afternoon (don’t ask) and after giving each of the hold-downs a quarter turn as per manual it wouldn’t come off. I was afraid of breaking it I’m back in my garage but still can’t get the thing off... -

There’s a guy who restores LRs in Colchester. He might be able to recommend someone. He does not do service on recent vehicles. There’s New England Foreign Cars and also NE Foreign cars in Hartford but that a schlep (but not 200 miles). I go to these guys. Are there any in Canada? Frank -

Voltmeter / USB charge port install
This might be easy to diagnose. Try putting another device in the receptacle to see if it’s working. If it is then it’s the little plug-in voltmeter that’s at fault. You can also switch the voltmeter to the other receptacle and see if that works. Frank -

Buying help needed!!!
For what it’s worth, I’ve had a black non-HD for a bit over a year. I don’t do serious off road but a lot of class-4 roads and logging roads. Had some very heavy snows in Vermont this winter. I’ve never had a problem. I’m sort of sorry I didn’t get it with HD, not so much for function but just... -

Ticking and oil up the dipstick...
I know nothing about your specific vehicle/ engine but I seem to recall from my long-ago love affair with engines that there’s a crankcase breather and if it gets plugged the only other vent is thru the dipstick hole. Wild card but might be worth checking. Good luck Frank -

Cold weather transmission failure
Either that or a computer went wonky. I suspect the computer. We were negative 25 this AM and my nav didn’t turn on. When it finally did the monitor was very washed out and didn’t brighten until everything warmed up. The “eco” quit also I sorta find it hard to believe that -10 would increase... -

I bit the bullet and got four OEM 20” rims so I now have the Dunlaps on one and the original tires the truck came with on the other. Man, 20” rim+tire=HEAVY! I can barely lift one. Frank -

I’m running Dunlap Winter Maxx I bought the car late Nov ‘16 and by the time I tried to get winter tires (20 inch rims) this was all I could find. I don’t have other winter tires to compare them to, but so far they have been adequate on slick icy roads and also deep snow. I don’t know how... -

Finally got a real snowstorm here in Vermont yesterday. I took my LR 4 out on unplowed back roads and had great fun the tow trucks were out in force pulling flatlanders out of snowbanks but with winter tires my LR was really in its element. It’s been nagging me all morning to take it out again... -

I had this happen in a previous car. It popped in both directions. Mechanics couldn’t find anything wrong at all so they replaced everything. Still klunk. For reasons I don’t remember I put a few more pounds air in front tires and Presto! the klunk disappeared. I dunno Frank -

The recommended service flyer in the vehicle packet implies but doesn’t specifically state that it has to be done by dealer. I don’t need oil change- it was done a couple months ago. I don’t want to void the warranty! Frank -

Battery Life
So your folding mirrors didn’t go out? I just had this happen yesterday for first time. I stopped engine, opened and shut door and the went out normally on restart. Is the mirror failure a warning sign of something?
