    No Sound From Radio/Nav/Bluetooth

For whatever reasons, I do not see any pictures but I do not think the problem is what generates the red light - either you have red light or you do not. See my file on the fibre optic loop jumper that allows one to bypass certain parts of the system such as the Bluetooth module. That link is...

    Seat Wear

It is called wear for a reason - normal use plus a few years and that is what you end up with. I have about 400,000 km (250,000 miles) on my 3 now and at about 300, I replaced that vertical insert on the left side of the seat cushion. It started to develop a horizontal crack sometime previous...

    Water in Passenger Footwell

The picture in the link shows the AC drains in the LR3. I expect not much changed re the LR4. If you have wet carpets on one or both sides and no recent rain but lots of air conditioner use, the hose has separated from the ducting. It is just a matter of reattaching - a clean hands job. The...

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

I agree about the $120 and the new temperature sensor you get with all the plastic might not be the problem - but it might be. With a Land Rover, all fixing is a gamble - that is what makes them interesting; they are more a vehicle of choice for the gambler so to speak. All sensors deteriorate...

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

That is how I see a lot of the LR parts - maintenance items that you would never change out on a Chev or Ford pickup but on the 3/4, the cost of "run to fail" it just too high. I treat maintenance on my 3 as similar to my airplane - "time in service", and keep replacing stuff before it fails -...

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

Now that you mention the thermostat area coolant temperature sensor, every five years or so I replace the whole thermostat assembly, p/n LR005631. That way I get new plastic, a new thermostat hopefully properly assembled (its tricky) and best of all, a new coolant sensor. The one down by the...

Hood will only latch on one side

Thanks for the update - we like to hear when something goes right. Coincidentally my left side latch was not latching - sure scary when you see the bonnet start to lift. Normally it is the passenger side that does not latch so I attempt to lift that side after I have closed the bonnet...

Hood will only latch on one side

Back in 2005 when the LR3 was new, LR boasted that the hood was the largest single aluminum pressing on any production vehicle anywhere. Land Rover is the test mule producer for the majors, Ford in particular. The 3 and 4 gave Ford the confidence to put aluminum pressings into their pickups.

locked rear door on 06 discovery

It might not be the latch solenoid but instead the switch mechanism above the license plate. Yes, one would think the central locking switch procedure should bypass the rear door switch but my experience was that it did not. The signals that go thru the switches are computer signals rather...

    Battery Issue? AGM Lifetime?

When the light goes out, will I might be pleased, I wait a few days to celebrate, but maybe the software settled in. Well done and we appreciate the update. It is always nice to know how things turn out. When something works, we all learn and the other way around as well.

    Battery Issue? AGM Lifetime?

Below is the link to the one page doc file explaining the procedure for the LR3 radio. I expect the procedure is something similar re the LR4 and does not require any tool, but even if so, I do not know the procedure. The reason I think the fix can be done with the pushing of buttons is that...

    Battery Issue? AGM Lifetime?

Do nothing for a week or so of driving - that I find is an effective fix when I know the problem is something software related. After a week, I would do the hard reset - often have to do that when I install a new battery in my LR3, fortunately no ECO light but lots of flashing red and yellow...

    Tail light (aftermarket)

I presume that they flash at a normal rate and that when you connect a trailer, the systems recognize the trailer and disable the backup sensors? If you were to get the odd transmission or cruise control message indicating something not good, it would just be the LED tail lights. If so...

Ton of faults after an aftermarket subwoofer was installed (SOLVED)

I am a bit slow it seems. From the first jpg, I see a wire that is not connected to anything. I assume that was not a factory Land Rover wire but am I to assume that wire related to something other than the sub woofer install? In other words, whatever the wire does, it presumably got...

Coolant Levels Dropping Slowly - No Visible Leaks

I recall that my Buick Roadmaster with the 5.7 V8 coolant level was slowly dropping but only rarely would I see any drips on the garage floor, and when I did, it was somewhat under the water pump area. Ultimately it turned out to be the water pump leaking at the front seal but for it to...

    OEM hitch receiver, or aftermarket?

If you have an LR3, the electrical system on the 3 prefers that the trailer have the incandescent bulb type tail lights. If an LR4, I gather that LED tail lights in the trailer work OK with the 4. Part of what the tail light harness is designed to do is let the vehicle know that a trailer...

    OEM hitch receiver, or aftermarket?

For equal time and all, below are some Rhino hitch pictures which is for real off road use. The factory hitch I regard as more for U-Haul type trailers.

    OEM hitch receiver, or aftermarket?

Attached are pictures of the original LR3 hitch and the newer LR4 hitch. Both work on either vehicle. The newer LR4 hitch is less long and apparently has an improved locking mechanism. Regardless of which one you use, remove it when not in use as when sitting inside somewhere, it is not...

Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

You have a good mechanic there. The problem with the who fault code game is the computers can only feed back what they have been taught. One thing none of the computers are every taught is "faulty electrical connector" or "broken/breaking/corroded wire". As such when that is the problem, the...

Random / Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected

Coils - yes, my Independent replaced a couple on my 4.4L V8 a few months back. I had noticed a bit of stumbling so to speak so decided it was about time to replace the spark plugs. I do that about every 50 thousand miles, not so much because there is a plug problem, but just to make certain...

Fluctuating RPM's at constant throttle (throttle hunting, surging, gear hunting)

I am wondering what problem you are referring to? The thread started out with a question of what I would call surging - sort of like one was tapping on the gas pedal at low speed. If that is the problem, see my post #16 of 2019 - two years later, still no surging so I guess replacing the oil...

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

I guess that explains the length question but as to interior width, that will continue to be a problem that the 130 when it appears, will not solve. It seems that the styling guys sucked the body in at the waist and the interior just got smaller. The beltline also went up - empire waist so to...

    As Predicted. (Defender news)

What I cannot figure out is how the new Defender got smaller on the inside relative to the 3/4 yet a pinch bigger on the outside? I can get larger stuff thru the rear hatch of my 3 than I could a circa 2005 or even current Tahoe. With the flat floor of the 3/4 and the seven seats, one could...

Pump replaced but air bags wont fill.

The odds are you have a broken / corroded wiring in the left front wheel wheel. In other words, you do not have an ABS sensor problems but it is just that the signals from the sensors are not getting to the computers. The link below discusses the concern. The reason I am familiar with this in...

    Battery Issue? AGM Lifetime?

I have the older SC80-LR controller which does not have any sort of interior mounted control box. I have thought of upgrading my SC-80 to the SC-160 with the control box but have yet to do so. The truth is I am not certain just how or what the limitations of the older unit is, however it does...
