    Rhino / ox hitch option

Yes, that is what I was fearing. Well at least the new Defender has independent rear suspension. I am wondering where all the space went? Yes, the Defender is smaller than our Discovery's but that much smaller? We have space for real dual exhausts and space for a full sized spare between the...

    Rhino / ox hitch option

That tow "hook" profile is so common in the EU that they do not see what we see. I guess the problem is we in North America are still too puritanical and hence have developed a viable alternative. If there is any good news, the North American two inch receiver is making some inroads on the...

    LR3 flash relay location

You are beat - there is no flasher in the sense that I presume you are thinking of a cube like device that plugs into a slot somewhere. The flasher circuit is built into one of the circuit boards somewhere; the circuit board behind the lower glove box fuse panel I think. The sound of the...

    Rhino / ox hitch option

I was wondering what LR has done on the new Defender the the hitch? I understand the why re what we have on the 3's and 4's, hence I wonder what it is for the new machines.

    It's here, now what?

That is a really good video comparison of the Defender vs a D4. It really does puzzle me - where did the Defender space go? The wheelbase is longer than the D4 but the boot space is significantly smaller. With the rear mounted spare, it appears to take more length to park. Overall there seems...

    It's here, now what?

Well they made it to their shop, maybe forty miles without an actual breakdown; in spite of the red problem light, the Defender did not go to the stops either. It seems that there is some sort of a cancel or defer button to hide the big red light and instead one gets a small red light so LR...

    It's here, now what?

It doesn't; be patient for another three years when styling does a "refresh". They can sort the front end, replace the minicar image and give it a grownup look. As to the rear, styling can put visible taillights back there and when the 130 comes out, put the spare underneath. Currently, even...

    Inner/Outer Tie rod ends replacement

A bit late now for me to mention it, but when I need ball joints, I replace the whole control arm. If you have to pay for labour, the cost works out about the same and one gets all new everything. Sometimes, I even purchase new bolts as well. I am just lazy I guess.

All Weather or Snow Tires ?

30 inch OD Toyo Celsius CUV (Cute Utility Vehicle) tyres P235/65R18 One can refer back to post #27 in this thread re my Cute Utility Vehicle tyres but 30,000 km and a year later, I am still impressed, plus no real signs of wear either. Run quiet, take potholes well, and seems to remain between...

    Inner/Outer Tie rod ends replacement

Replacing front end parts seems to be part of the deal. I have gotten used to replacing tie rod ends and front lower control arms (never an upper, or any rear). A few years back, I stopped having the LR dealer do the work using official LR parts and switched to a local independent. For my 3...

So here is why after owning (4) Land Rovers I don't think I will ever own one again.

What I cannot figure out is if we cannot keep these things on the road in North America, why would anyone think they would be suitable for the rest of the world, particularly the third world? Toyota must have it figured out as on TV, Toyota's are all the terrorists seem to move about in. That...

what’s the fastest you’ve gone in your LR4

I noted your post and I guess both of us drive the Crowsnest, Alberta #3. Travelling west into the headwind is not so much fun, but east with the tailwind pushing on the rear hatch "wall" is like being on a magic carpet. There is no wind noise, the gas gauge remains frozen and the little...

    Parasitic Draw

I have never quite understood that, or more correctly, when all is parked, that the Traxide allows power to go both ways regardless of the voltage condition of the other battery. I say that as one of the "benefits" of the Traxide design is that it does not allow one battery to discharge the...

No sound from radio or sound system after sunroof leak into passenger footwell

This is a link to a 12 page pdf that is the wiring diagram for both the high spec and low spec audio systems. The lines depicting the wires are appropriately coloured. https://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=34462&pos=1 Below is a link to a bunch of pdf's including the above...

10 amps is not much - how do I know? It seemed just opening the door was more than 10 amps as more than the courtesy lights power up on a 3. O well, I wanted a new "voltmeter" anyway.

    Parasitic Draw

That is a good link - much appreciated. I have about the same setup on my 3, a Traxide SC80 but Interstate batteries on both sides. I use the CTEK US3300 and maybe every 3 months, hook same alternately to each battery for a week of nights or so. The jpg's below show fused wiring from both...

    Parasitic Draw

I regard it as near impossible to figure out what is taking power and what not. Since the procedure requires keeping the bonnet open, I would jump the bonnet open/closed sensor to emulate the bonnet being closed. You could then pull fuses from the engine compartment fuse box and and watch the...

No sound from radio or sound system after sunroof leak into passenger footwell

Grounding again - this is so Land Rover. The fix costs nothing but time - and eons of it. I find that many of the solutions to near impossible to find problems cost only time. This is the value of these forums - that others who have spent the time let the others know where the problem is and...

    Defender(s) making a massive scene recovering a 20ton truck

Below is the link to a twenty eight minute video of five 2020 factory Defenders on a trek thru the sands of Namibia. I figure that is where the tow the truck event occurred.

No sound from radio or sound system after sunroof leak into passenger footwell

If you want to view what I think is a really enjoyable Defender video, below is a Dropbox link to about a twenty minute video filmed in the Libyan desert in 2007. The video was done as an advertising promo by a French expedition outfit to promote desert tours for 2008. Link to the French LR...

    Possible windshield prep?

I did not have to do the tape fix on the last windscreen change out, but if I do get wind noise, I run a vertical strip of black 3M electrical tape up the inside edge of the A pillar taping it to the windscreen. Done right, it hardly shows at all.

No sound from radio or sound system after sunroof leak into passenger footwell

I am wondering how the new Defender is with regards to the vehicle systems shutting it down, (no go), as a result of a computer issue? I watched a near 30 minute LR promo video which sort of referenced that towing scene plus there was a comment re making the systems more fault tolerant. I hope...

    Possible windshield prep?

I agree; usually they have a Pilkington in stock or within a week but last year, not so - it puzzled me as well. A few years back I had the shop install a new cowling and also both A pillar covers; with the new windscreen, the 3 looked new. I have wondered about new windscreen wiper arms as...

    Defender(s) making a massive scene recovering a 20ton truck

I am not certain about fake, but I did wonder how two new Defenders that really do not yet exist show up in the same place. I presume it was some sort of LR fleet test in Africa or similar and agree, it is not remarkable. It also seems to me that the LR 3/4s did that sort of tow by themselves...

    Possible windshield prep?

Fortunately, there is one glass shop in my village that the local LR dealer sends his vehicles. As such, the guys are good at replacing the LR3/4 windscreens. They hate doing the glass roof however. I have always had them use the Pilkington windscreen but for last years replacement they...
