I removed the air intake manifold from my V8 5.0L LR4 today; I didn't find it that easy! Once the ten M6 bolts have been removed the front lifts up reasonably easily; by front I mean the end with the throttle body (assuming everything has been disconnected). The rear end had me baffled as it... -

Agreed with ftillier - take the bolt to a local reputable hardware store and ask them to identify the thread on the bolt (M8 or M10 by the look of it - but thread pitch is also important, e.g. M8 x 1.25); you then need a tap and a tap wrench: you then use this to clean up the threads, screw... -

"Are you sure the new ECT is giving you the reading on the left?" Yes I think so, it's the same sensor that was previously complaining about a circuit issue. For some reason it seems to be measuring hot when it's not; the pipe wasn't even hot to the touch. Perhaps the wires are the wrong way... -

ftillier - thank you so much, the warming up quickly makes sense I think, the thermostat likely hasn't opened yet... Your values are significantly lower! Ambient when I did the test was 14C. I will need to check again today. -

The new temperature sensor arrived from from FCP Euro; I measured the resistance across the two terminals and get about 2730 ohms. The old sensor was registering as an open circuit so I guess that gives me my answer about what's broken. Interestingly I get these temperatures once the engine... -

Yep - exactly, I don't see the point in spending lots of $$$ if there's more fundamental issue; the cooling system refresh will all coincide with timing chains as well... I'm ah 102K miles and don't know the history of the parts; chains are slightly noisy! -
