Celebratory scotch tonight. Engine and transmission are in the truck and attached to each other. Attached the rear crossover after I got the motor in. I was concerned about it getting caught on the cowl on the way in. Pretty big milestone. Now the hard part begins, wiring. Plan is to print...

Pulled the transmission and transfer case out and put it in the back of the trusty 240 wagon and brought it all to a transmission shop and asked them if I was a dumb dumb. Guy gave it a few tries and couldn't get passed the first stator. He said I might get lucky if I can stand it up on end...

LR4 manual doesn't show anything except that the drive plate of the torque converter should extend 6mm from the bell housing face. Found a manual for the ZF 8HP70 on some Russian site, doesn't show anything.

    Crossover pipe work

When picking up parts at the dealership for my project one of the techs came around the corner with a few questions for me. He was essentially checking to make sure that I replaced all of the cooling system pipes. He called them a "maintenance item" with a dissatisfied look on his face.

Engine is back out. Is there something dumb I'm missing about getting the torque converter to seat all the way? Just keep playing with it?

I get this close and it doesn't seem to want to go any farther. Does the torque converter weld bead appear to be in about the right spot relative to the inspection hole? Really don't want to pull the engine back out just to visually confirm that the torque converter is fully seated.

Pretty sure you're right. Rain stopped and I dropped the rear drive shaft and slid the transmission and transfer case back. I was able to get the pin of the torque converter out of the engine and pushed the torque converter back onto the transmission. I'll try again tomorrow.

Motor is in the engine bay and on the mounts. Really struggling to get the transmission to mate up. Bell housing and block are square to each other, just can't seem to draw them together. Pretty sure the pin on the torque converter is in the right spot. Contemplating disconnecting the rear...

20" are fine on something like a fire road. Anything more adventurous, get the 18" steelies.

Clear the fuel adaptions after you installed the thing? On another vehicle I had an exhaust leak. After fixing it I got a CEL lambda code. Reset the computer and I was good.

New flywheel bolts are a different drive type. Engineers at JLR are killing me. Old flywheel bolts were E12, new flywheel bolts are EP14. Add the RIBE 8 exhaust manifold bolts and I'm going to lose my mind.

Not sure when I broke this, but it goes on the end of the short hose coming out of the throttle body. The barb that goes into that hose broke, fat side connects to LR 014567, barb coming off at an angle connects to nothing if I remember right. What part is this?

New motor is getting all dressed up. Oil cooler, valve covers, and high pressure fuel pumps are on. Drilled out some holes in the intakes and put in some heli-coils. Went to the dealer for parts twice today. A bunch of the gasket kits I got were incomplete, very frustrating. Have to go back...
