    Lessons Learned Rebuilding 5.0 V8 2012 LR4 Engine

Why exactly is the dealer saying your engine is junk? Tearing it down yourself is a good start, btw. You should post a new thread for the shop recommendation, not many people are going to see your post here.

Front passenger axle threads stripped by axle nut...looking for advice

Thanks for the photo, that is helpful. I don't think that is fixable... those threads are munched pretty good. I don't know how the inboard side is retained, but since we can't access the inboard end (AFAIK), I suspect it simply presses out? Other forum members who have actually done the job...

    DIY Oil Change for LR4

Read the reviews. With no mesh around the element like OE, I'd be a little nervous.

2011 Disco 4/LR4 catalytic converter fail

OE is typically superior in longevity and reduced emissions, not power output. While I can't comment on LR4 cats specifically, for some other marques, replacing a cheap converter every few years ends up being more expensive than buying a good one up front. I still want to see an answer to...

    2013 LR4 - Battery dead - Weird things - 3 options?

PulseTech Xtreme Charge can also resurrect most batteries that do not have physical internal damage (shorted cell, etc). I have several of these and they are great both as maintainers, and to recover "bad" batteries. It can take 1-2 weeks to fully restore a badly discharged or sulfated battery...

2011 Disco 4/LR4 catalytic converter fail

Ditto this: ^^^ Generally, factory cats are far superior to aftermarket (there's a reason the aftermarket are so "affordable"). However in USA, federal law prohibits sale of used catalytic converters. So you won't find any salvage yards in USA selling them. Only possibility would be a private...

Marco, any chance you can post a photo of the damage?

    LR4 Parts Source's (SCV6)

LR Tampa is the only dealer I know that offers free shipping (over $99). Most of the other dealers will end up with a higher total cost after shipping is factored in. If there are other dealers with free ship deals, I'd like to know about them: https://parts.landrovertampa.net/ Remember that OE...

    Oil Overfill Indication - 2013 LR4 5.0L

Oh yeah - forgot to mention, you cannot clear the service reminder without the GAP IID tool (or dealer tool). That's a separate issue. You should attempt resetting the average oil level value after correcting the level, assuming it's still slightly overfilled.

    Oil Overfill Indication - 2013 LR4 5.0L

The FSM is not clear on this, at all. I think it's generally a 1-time thing when you are certain you have filled the correct amount of oil after draining. And it might not hurt to do it periodically, in case the sensor readings drift over the years & miles. I did it the first time I changed the...

    Oil Overfill Indication - 2013 LR4 5.0L

What I would give for a useful dipstick that would fit down the vacuum-evac tube!!! I have a feeling the tube is too narrow and may cause problems trying to get a reading on the dipstick though... :albertein

How to understand compression issue. Rings or Valves? Video attracted

Leakdown is critical. I agree 100% with @djkaosone. These direct-injection engines have no way to keep the valves clean. It's entirely plausible that your problem is simply "dirty valves" preventing them from closing fully. The leakdown would help narrow this down, and with the intake manifold...

    Oil Overfill Indication - 2013 LR4 5.0L

Spec is 8.0 liters, and no, there isn't anywhere oil can be trapped or hidden. I don't know where the "phantom oil" stories come from. But if you really only added a small amount more (8.2L total?), this should not cause an "overfilled" warning. How exactly did you add "slightly over 8 liters...

    Transmission issue when cold?

The same would be true for old fluid, which may be different viscosity than new/fresh fluid. And the TCU will adapt again, to compensate for any wear in solenoids, friction materials, etc. What I don't know is how fast it will re-adapt. In some cases a transmission might shift funny after...

    Transmission issue when cold?

Thanks for the link. Sounds like the one guy generally doesn't like to do it on high-mile transmissions. But I don't think it's a big risk. I've not poked around in the GAP tool to see if it will display detailed adaptation information, i.e. where you can tell if a particular upshift/downshift...

    Transmission issue when cold?

I'd still consider an adaptation reset before resorting to mechanicals. Do you recall where you read that resetting adaptation was discouraged? That's news to me. In the Daimler-Chrysler world with their NAG-1/NAG-2 boxes (vaguely similar to the JLR trans), resetting adaptation is almost...

    Transmission issue when cold?

Before you start replacing hard parts... did you reset the transmission adaptation after the fluid & filter change? If not, I'd start there.

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

Same here, my procrastination also paid off. This summer, I finally did a drain & refill (without dropping the pan) and was disappointed to only get ~3.5 quarts out, of a ~10.5 (?) quart total capacity. It's gonna take a lot of messy drains & refills to eventually get 80-90% new fluid in there...

LR4 Transmission Fluid Change: Pan Swap Option

+1 on the pan gasket upgrade to LubeLocker LLT-F6R80. I bought the metal pan kit from a forum member and still haven't installed it, but I knew on sight that the plain-paper gasket supplied was guaranteed to leak without additional sealant applied (not a good idea on a transmission pan). I...

LR4s out there holding their value maybe more than just quite well

Solar Trickle Charger? Also what is that wire.

You posted the same question in a different thread, I'll repeat my response here too... The $25 Amazon unit you linked to is really designed for interior use, although the seller and some buyers claim it works ok mounted externally. One reviewer mentioned sealing up the housing with silicone...

Does the LR4 Require 2 Keys???

I didn't see it mentioned in this thread, but if you buy used key fobs from eBay or elsewhere, and program with IID... they will only work if the battery inside the fob is good. If the fob battery dies, you can use the steel key to open the door, but the backup method of holding the fob against...

    Repeatable Vibration Issues

Did you get the Road Force numbers when balanced? If the measured road force is too high, you'll get vibration. I think up to ~40 lbs is allowed for "light truck" tires, passenger car limit is 26 lbs RF. I like to see single digits or low teens on car tires. But if the vibration really does go...
