We are in the same boat. There's nothing else available with the same feature set as the LR4. Specifically, we want to be able to fit at least six full-size adults without being cramped in the 3rd row. I'm not even sure the LR5 can do that with the sloping rear roofline...
o_O
Put another way, how do YOU define it; or what expectations did you have that were not met with the LR4?
Or, what truck would you buy instead, if you sold the LR4?
Just curious.
I read similar complaints in the Mercedes world. "Why does [item X] not last longer? Why can't it last the lifetime of the vehicle?"
It's the same with certain items on the LR4, like the control arm bushings. Those are wear items. When they wear out, replace them. Could JLR have engineered a...
Reprogramming the LR4 ECU with supercharged data tables could be a monstrous job. I have a feeling it's more complex than it may seem on the surface.
Meanwhile, the RRS ECU just needs to have the security crap tweaked to make it happy in a different chassis. (Right?)
Appears the LR4 V8 ECU is...
While we've never had the LR4 at sustained speeds much beyond 70-80mph (freeway), my wife did drag race it for the 2019 season in the Street Truck class. Up here at ~2700' elevation it typically ran mid-15's at 90mph. Highest trap speed was a tick under 92mph. Zero issues. Photo below from May...
This. ^^^
I have a feeling quite a few other systems may not be happy with the original ECU not functioning. And some of those systems may be what makes the LR4 capabilities special.
For off-road use I don't think the power increase makes much sense. Has anyone ever felt 375hp was inadequate...
If the heads do have to come off, you don't need to deck the block (probably not even the head) unless there was severe overheating. These motors are not like old domestic V8's with iron block/heads. I'm not sure if the TC will have any significant effect on shifting, it's more likely to be...
I guess I don't understand why not just fix the timing chain /guides tensioner on the original engine? It isn't like these items keep failing. It should be a once-per-lifetime issue, per engine. The new parts are updated, it won't happen again (if changing the correct oil frequently enough)...
Dealers are lazy and don't want to dig up the information, especially if you aren't paying for their time. Yes, details of the previous owner are private information. But details about what work was done to the truck is not. It's their way of getting rid of you. They could provide the service...
303 Aerospace Protectant is supposed to help prolong wiper lifespan, and reduce wiping problems. They used to sell a box of packets with small wipes that would treat several wipers, but appears these are NLA. Instead, just use your normal bottle of 303, squirt on a cloth, and wipe down the...
When you reach the point of having to swap pistons... it becomes a lot more enticing to just swap the entire engine instead. I wouldn't attempt to convert a normally-aspirated motor to supercharged, but that's just me. Too many unknowns, too much risk...
Parts list and exploded diagrams are available in a program called "Microcat", available from eBay sellers. It's miserably difficult to navigate and use. As a bonus, many times the part number shown has been superceded to a newer p/n, but the online dealer sites (like the one you linked to) will...
Very cool - never heard of this. Not that I plan to get stuck as described, but it's nice to know there is additional suspension height available in emergencies!
Anyone know if the feature is present on 2010-2013 USA spec with the V8 5.0L engine?
Depending on the exact location of the leak, it MAY be possible to apply some external sealant as a Band-Aid fix to stop the leak, rather than disassembling parts of the engine.
If the leak is so small that there is zero drip when you park overnight, it may not be worth spending thousands of...
That sounds bad. As a test, I would disconnect the serpentine belt and run the engine briefly, to see if the noise goes away. If so, that confirms it is an external belt-driven item. If not... uh-oh.
14.75 volts with engine running seems a tad high, now I need to go check my LR4 with the engine running! This only indicates the ALTERNATOR is working.
The battery really needs a load test to determine if it's good, failing, or bad. Most FLAPS/McParts stores will load test for free, hoping the...
Need more info. $660 sounds low for front pads+rotors, and high for pads only. How many miles on the truck, and have the brakes ever been replaced since new?
If you can turn a wrench at all, this job is totally DIY'able within an afternoon, for <$100 with OEM Ferodo pads + sensors. Add a couple...
