Yep, black part pulls off therefore releasing the spring. Hoping everything is ok, there was a little too much white smoke initially so will check the coolant.
Still trying to figure out the transmission noise.
Lesson from this weekend! Don't forget when installing new hoses as part of the timing chain job to remove the retaining clips that secure hoses to their respective pipes:
In this case I lost cooling fluid but hopefully got lucky in that we could hear the hose hitting the cooling fan and...
Ouch... New battery at Costco was $170 but mine failed the test at the local AutoZone so it was a no brainer... Perhaps try a battery and return it if that's not the issue, it's a lot cheaper than $3K.
I learned the hard way never to rule out the battery on these things although I can't explain the stalling, here's the thread I started on this topic as an FYI:

Hey BigBri! - I had head unit issues in the early days of LR4 ownership; there was a thread recently where I provided information on purchasing a replacement unit on Ebay. My issue was with the unit not saving radio stations... It was a minor issue but in the end quite annoying! Let's see...
Hi @CPalacay - I opted not to replace either the fuel injectors or the cam variators, the engine was (and still is) running very nicely so figured I would skip on these parts. I did do a deep clean on the variators (or as a much as I could without pulling them apart). The injectors I cleaned...
Perhaps look at my journey with suspension issues in this thread (I have a similar code and falling overnight):
https://www.landroverworld.org/threads/2012-lr4-reluctant-to-lower-from-off-road-suspension-mode.44636/
I would absolutely start with new o'rings per the thread and clean/service the...
"Now, if there were a solution for the rear wiper keeping its tension on the rear window, I’d be all in."
Glad to know I'm not the only one thinking this... Can the spring be upgraded perhaps?
That's a great video Tapps33; thanks for sharing. It's not that easy to find posts describing the location of the Satellite Radio Module (we're guessing SRM) on the LR4; the fact that it's on the passenger side (left hand drive vehicles) and in the trunk (boot for the Brits) makes it quite an...
On Page 1 I provided some eBay links that show what to look for. I'm in agreement with Tapps33; I'd start with the audio unit (photo also posted on page 1); if that doesn't work then I'd replace the touch screen. To help remove the dash I suggest also loosening the center console. I can...
I think it's for sound also... Damn mice! I caught a few on video while I was doing my timing chains. I left the trunk open to store parts (no battery so had to stay open) and they were sitting on the rear window! Need to leave the cats in the barn for a few days!
Could it be in Valet mode and therefore reduced functionality? Skip that - I see it's always there :-(.
I agree with Tapps33 - it's time to pull it apart and start replacing parts, I'm not sure why you've not gotten in there already but per my previous post there are videos that can help and...
Hi Joe77 - Thanks for the feedback, I'm really pleased to hear that the docs will help, there's a ton of great information out there (esp. YouTube) but they don't always answer some of the finer details; I was hoping to fill in some of those details with this thread! Off-course, this forum and...
My eBay replacement unit (and cost):
Looking for similar units:
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_id=284975362521&_nkw=2012-2016%20Land%20Rover%20LR4%20HSE%20Am%20Fm%20Cd%20Player%20Radio%20Receiver%20OEM%2050645928%20AA&_sis=1
I don't think it's a fuse issue; otherwise stuff just wouldn't work. My advice is to get in there and have a look at the unit, does it look clean? Don't overlook the eBay option as it's really not that difficult to replace once you're in there. I'm sorry this is stressful. Just take your time.
That 120 degree connector is actually blocked on the new assembly, watch this video as it helped me a lot:
Here's where Rover Range spotted a mistake I made during my recent Timing Chain endeavor (read the thread to get the background!)...
