How to stop battery from draining

I don't think your situation is unusual. When I camp with my 2011 LR4, I can get the "low battery" warning even after 1 night (people opening doors a lot). Need to find a good way to disable all the lights and things when not needed. I guess I'll give umbertob's fix a try.

    Navigation update

Funny, I find the data entry on my 2011 LR4 to be easier than on our 2014 BMW, although it could be at least partially a familiarity difference. The route guidance on the LR4 sucks though...I've learned I cannot trust it at all to pick the fastest route and if there is any doubt and I care then...

    Aftermarket Brakes

14K seems pretty early for rear pads. Squeaking doesn't mean the pads are low, it's fairly hard with these trucks to not have squeaking pads, even when they are new. You can try replacement but if you find someone that will guarantee no squeaking you will be pretty lucky. As for pads..there...

LR4 car camping / dead battery

Battery drain does seem to be very high on my 2011 also. I had the original battery fail at 2 years and dealer installed replacement. On car camping trips I can easily get the low battery warning if there is a lot of in and out of the car, so I try to keep it to a minimum. I think there is...

    ARB/Engel Fridge - Who's Got One??

One other comment....it's very hard on a starter battery to deep cycle discharge it. You will wear out your starter battery quickly if you do this frequently. Just another reason I personally don't recommend the "fix" to keep the rear socket live when the car is off.

    ARB/Engel Fridge - Who's Got One??

I have the Arb 50 or whatever is close to that. It fits great between the two 2nd row seats if you take the center seat out. I run it on either the console socket or if it is all the way in the back then on the rear socket. No problems except I didn't realize the LR4 shuts off the sockets...

Cooper Zeon LTZ Off-Road tires on Stock 19" Wheels

I put Coopers on about 3 months and 5K miles ago. I don't notice any significant difference on the highway vs the stock Conti's. Off-road they've performed well around Ouray and Moab. But the traction control on these trucks is so good that the Conti's never really gave me any problems...snow...

Towing with the LR4... Tongue Weight

There are many factors you have to look at to determine tow capacity. By comparing all the various specifications, you determine which one is the "weak link" in the chain, and that is the maximum you can tow. The 770 is the rating of the hitch itself, not the truck you are plugging it into...

    Brake Pads and Rotors

I had my fronts replaced (35K miles) at an independent shop and they used non-OEM pads and rotors (backs were still good for now). The difference I can tell is this: when driving off-road, I've noticed a metallic rattle coming from the front wheels. I looked around and didn't see anything...

    LR4 Camera System Fault

I had the same problem in my 2011. I have the vision package, and also have all the trailer hook ups. I had to take it to the dealer (under warranty) and I believe there was a TSB related to the problem. In any case I know I had to make two trips, whatever they did the first time didn't fully...

Off Road Do you Really go?

I never hesitated about this...the reason I chose a land rover instead of another brand was primarily for it's off-road capability. A few scratches here and there don't do any harm. I personally think it doesn't make much sense to buy an LR4 and then put 22" wheels on it....if that is your...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

Assuming you have the vision package, then what they can activate is the towing assist. This is a feature that, after you put a sticker with 3 black dots on your trailer, helps you align the trailer when backing up or attaching the hitch. If it is active you will know by checking your camera...

    Roof rack options thread

I just got back from a ~1000 mile drive to Telluride and back with a Yakima Skybox (I believe it is the 18) on top of a Frontrunner full roof rack. No problems and hit 90+ several times. One thing I have noticed is that if the box is very full it can either partially latch or even fully latch...

    Cargo Area Concerns

You can easily pull out the middle seat in the 2nd row to get additional storage space inside. You might also consider getting a hitch mount luggage carrier.

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

If you are asking what a brake controller does, then what it does is sense when the vehicle is slowing down (some use an internal accelerometer) and then apply the brake signal to the trailer. It has an adjustment for controlling how hard the brakes are applied...a fully loaded trailer will...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

To my knowledge, and according the the current LR-USA web site, you do not need the Lux package to get the Trailer Stability Assist. They show it standard on all trim levels. I believe this is true on my 2011 HSE also although I'm not sure of any conclusive way to test it. Brake controller...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

Yup, it's that simple. If you can install a radar detector, then you can install the brake controller. No real difference in performance for P2 vs P3. P3 you pay $15 more and get an LCD display.

for those with the vision assist option

I have a 2011 with VA and about 7000 miles on it. I did see a blue screen on a couple of the cameras the first day I owned it, and on 1 camera 1 time since then, but that is it. In both cases the blue screens went away the next time I went into the vision screen. Other than impressing...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

I went with a Tekonsha P-3. I ordered it online and it came with a harness to adapt to the LR4. Seems to be working just fine. Yes, there is a receptical under the dash tucked in just above the brake pedal. Stick your head under there with a flashlight and you should be able to easily pull...

LR4 purchase and recent road trip ...

I've noticed that fuel economy is very dependent upon cruise speed. Keep the speed down and you could break 25mpg, but with cruise set at about 83 coming across AZ, I guess I was getting about 16 last weekend. I too considered most of the alternatives you mention. The LR4 is a really...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

Good to know that the tow feature shows on the camera screen without the trailer, that way I can make sure they have it solved before I leave next time. I even told them there was a Car Configuration File that had to be modified but the service adviser seemed to think they had already done...

LR4 Tow Assist - does it exist?

I've been working through this with my dealer. I installed the wiring harness myself. Then I had to take it to the dealer and they downloaded what they thought was the tow assist feature. When I tested it while still at the dealership I could not see anything different, but I didn't have a...

    Dealership Only Does Business Locally?

It's common. I ran into the same issue with several dealers when shopping around. I suppose they assume a sale out of market means less revenue for service and accessories, so when there is limited allocation they prefer to sell local.

    2012 Paint Scheme Scheme?

You can get the hitch receiver on ebay for $300 new with buy it now...not always but it is there currently. The tow electrics will need to be purchased from the dealer for a couple hundred or there about and a handy person can install themselves. The hitch itself is sold in a case through the...

    Impressed with Towing (6600lbs)

I don't think so. In my version of the manual (looking at the 2012 online version for USA) under the "towing" section it requires including tongue weight when calculating GVW. In reality, I don't think there is a clear answer. They will not specify the weight at failure (where things...
