Steering wheel shaking after rotor/pads replacement

I have been using this tool for years, have saved me from buying rotors way too soon as most mechanics, even dealers I took my vehicles too, would just eyeball it. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B006Y1OWKS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . measure in a few places along the...

oil change frequency poll under normal driving conditions

My random thoughts: True, some engine manufacturers do partner in an Extended Enterprise model with oil (and other components) manufacturers and design the engine as a system together, optimize the whole. They may then specify to use oil XYZ for the engine, and it is an investment from the oil...

oil change frequency poll under normal driving conditions

This is the PDS showing both the 925 and 945 typical values for Castrol. The big PDF has all the different weights, the png file I cut and pasted for easier comparison side by side. Now you can see what changes, depends where you live could be important.

oil change frequency poll under normal driving conditions

7500 Miles here, Mobil 1, currently at 95,000 miles. If curious, you can send oil out for testing at any interval you choose, say every 2500 miles after a fresh oil change and watch the characteristics change for your truck, your driving style, your weather conditions.

LR4 2015 - replacing front brake sensor cable

Change pads every 15K (lots of city driving) miles or so and the sensor will not break until it gets brittle. I found it easier to just reconnect the two little wires and zip tied it back and out of the way.

    LR4 off-road upgrades

There is a lot of great info here on truck additions. But I would recommend the most important modification is the driver, meaning if you have access to a good 4WD school, spend the money there first and learn from some experts how to modify your driving habits for improved off road...

    255/55/19 Duratracs discontinued?

Finally found the picture of the Goodyear tire tread. Same problem in quite a few tread blocks on all 4 tires. Never again Goodyear.....

    Brake judder - causes?

Read the link here http://www.stoptech.com/technical-support/technical-white-papers/-warped-brake-disc-and-other-myths Most brake issues like the one you described could be attributed to deposits of pad material and build up. Try this fix first, easy and free.

    255/55/19 Duratracs discontinued?

My duratracs started delaminating after 2 years, the blocks began to crack and come off the tire. We first noticed the frequency vibrations in the cabin, that got me to inspect the tires off the truck and I found multiple blocks cracking at the base. Now running continental terraincontact a/t...

    Rear hatch switch not working

If there’s no power to the switch, it might be the switch. If you press it and hear it activating but the tailgate won’t open, could be mechanical. Mine was doing the later, and spraying the mechanisms with silicone oil (wd40 silicone) made it work like new again

Are these OEM or > Quality Brakes?

EBC here, has been using them since my first change at 15K miles, now at 75 and changed them every 15-20K miles.

    75k Miles - Service

I agree, it didn't take long. You need the transaxle fluid from LR, since it is mixed with unicorn tears or something. The front and rear diff can use RedLine. The main thing, as I remember, is you need a good graduated cylinder to measure the oil going into the differentials, its an odd...

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

Oh, EBC Yellows are great for racing and enduros, they squeal a lot when cold and do take a few laps on a track to warm up. They also don't reach full effective friction rate until hot. They last me a few weekends, they are hard and do eat up disks. I run greens, street use, on my LR, so far...

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

I think it's high, but if you are use to dealer prices, the fluids could be $100, plus labor of an hour extra, I really don't know since I only go there for warranty work. Sorry can't help you with that.

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

It depends, what else are they doing for 5 yr service? The transfer case fluid was $50 to buy since its unique. The diff fluids are not, so no dealer gouging.

Off Road in NC/SC Jim Timmerman NRA

Bond, Funny you posted this, I was there yesterday to explore. I drove my Land Cruiser though, took the dogs and knew they would get wet and muddy so a 20 year old truck is better than the rover. Pretty cool place

Just picked up EBC pads and rotors

Wow, glad I found this old thread. So it has been over a year since my last one on this thread, but the rear brakes where singing, the rear disks (57K miles) lip began to rub on pads, so I figured it was time and might as well do all 4 corners. I still measured 18.7mm on rear calipers, so they...

Change out differential and transfer case fluids

Old thread, but extremely useful, completed this service today, 57K miles. I drove the rear on home built ramps, front on jack stands, driver side wheel removed. Some additional thoughts (can't load up photos on the site for some reason): 1. Get a plastic 1 liter can from a homedepot type...

    IIDTool for LR4 - When???

Are there a list of US distributors for these tools? I looked in the Lucky8 website, couldn't find it. Are they only sold in Canada or Europe? I may need to invent a business trip to Toronto. All my searches have come up with nothing in the US, not sure where you gents are getting yours. I...
