Off Road Do you Really go?

I completely admit to getting out of the truck to trim branches and brush with my anvil clippers and machete. Never the less scratches and wheel gouges are inevitable. When I turned my Black LR3 in at the end of the lease, I actually used the Langka wet sand kit combined with Griots polish...

Black Powder Coated Rims - Yes or No?

I had my Sport's 20" wheels powdercoated bright anthracite, and they look great (IMO). My wife absolutley hates the color, but she likes chrome:puke: It helped that my wheels had many scrapes from the prior owner and a few gouges from my off-roading. My dealer (Marin), somewhat specializes...

    Rotors: Slotted, Drilled, Slotted-Drilled, Regular?

All good info. I'm using EBC Ultimax rotors too, and I find them to be both aggressive and quiet. The slots seem to help water and grit evacuate the pad surface. I use to get grit between the pad and rotor every now and then, and the slots do seem to help. I had ECS Sport rotors on a prior...

    Washing LR Engine

I use a wet terry cloth towel with car wash or Simply Green and clean the whole compartment, and take extra special care to avoid the delicate electronic bits. I then repeat with a wet cloth to rinse. Then I wipe the plastic with Griots Treatment and spray the painted metal with Griots Speed Shine.

" My New 2012 Land Rover LR4 HSE Luxury Limited Edition"

I really like the Arabica leather - that alone is worth the upgrade over the more plebian trims.

Issues to Look Out for - 2008 Supercharged?

Make sure that all of the electronics work, and that the vehicle received all of the software updates - makes a huge difference. Make sure that the vehicle was serviced every 6 months. As this was complimentary, I would run from a vehicle that was not (e.g., negligent owner). Make sure the...

why and why not should I buy LR4

Thanks bromhead - the pic was taken about halfway up the family cattle ranch - been in the family since 1872. It's a breathtakingly beautiful no income albatross, but there is a lot of emotional & historical attachment. I always thought it would make a great site for Land Rover Experience, but...

why and why not should I buy LR4

My main dislikes with the 4Runner (when I was looking last year) was that you cannot get one without a sunroof in CA; hence, I was not even close to fitting. The interior is also very <$30K plastic not so fantastic econocar. I was also looking at a Trail which only comes in cloth, so was...

Cooper Zeons or ATR's or Something else ?

The Coopers wear like Iron, but they slightily hum on the highway over 45mph, granted this is for S-rated 275/45-20's. The Pirelli's also have better wet grip and hydroplane resistance - IMO. The Coopers are much better offroad, however, and among the best ATs I have ever experienced.

Black LR3... scratch concerns at car wash

I hate all car wash establishments - brushless, touchless etc., especially on black cars/trucks. Brushless - I've washed the gentleman take the sheepskin mitt and go all the way down to the sidesteps and all the way back-up - repeat without rinsing the mitt. Hence, all that dirt from the...

Time for New 19" tires - would you recommend Zeon LTZ's or Pirelli ATR's

I had ATRs on my Cayenne GTS and have the Zeons on my RRS S\C. The ATRs are much quieter than the Zeons on the highway, have great dry/wet grip and hydroplanning resistance. They do OK offroad, but not as well as other AT tires I've utilized. I consider the ATR to be as good or better than...

Going to buy 4Runner Trail, convince me otherwise!!!

If a wheel had no traction and was spinning/slipping, the traction control would cut power to the wheel. When all four wheels were slipping, the traction control would cut power to all four wheels. You revved the engine, but nothing happened. No wheels spinning - shut down. This was a big topic...

Going to buy 4Runner Trail, convince me otherwise!!!

The GX does fine offroad, but for a few quirks. I never liked the rear suspension, as it was always bottoming out into the bumpstops, my '03 had a nondefeatable traction control whereby if no wheels had traction (i.e., spinning) then the vehicle would "shut down", and I hated the gated shifter...

Going to buy 4Runner Trail, convince me otherwise!!!

The 4-Runner Trail intrigued me when I needed more offroad capability than my GTS, and prices for both 2008+ pre-owned LR3's and new LR4's were in the realm of ridiculous (Fall of 2010). I had a prior GX470 before my LR3. I wanted to like the Trail, but the interior was really cheap for a...

Uh Oh! Help with diagnosing sudden offroad LR4 Trauma?

I would suspect that your traction control was working hard for extended period of time, and you boiled your brake fluid. This has happened to me on long ascents up sketchy climbs. It also sounds like your power steering fluid overheated? This happened to me with my Cayman after a vigorous track...

Potential buyer - leather stain question

I would recommend using a good leather cleaner (wolfgangs, zymol, leather master) and leather masters protectant - on new leather. I would also wipe down the leather with a damp leather cloth (Griots green cloth), which if you are using the protectant, will take off the jean stains with a few...

    Would like assistance regarding Tires

I ran 265/60-18's on my LR3 and think they are a great tire. They were quieter and provided a smoother ride on the road than the OE GY's. They also provided better dry/wet grip and hydroplane resistance. Offroad, I would rank them better than the Pirelli ATR and about even with the Revo. I liked...

My LR4 is gone, the dream is dead

Good life decisions, and it says a lot about a person who is willing to humble himself for the security of his family. By the way, I have frequently rented Suzuki Samarai/Sidekicks on surf trips to Central America, and they are phenomenally tough and their offroad capabilities are truly...

    Brake pads

Another option are Hawk LTS Brake Pads. They are of higher performance than OEM with very strong initial bite, and seemed to dust a tad less than the OEM Ferodo. I had them on the LR3, but opted for EBC Greens on my wife's FFRR. They just got put on today with the EBC Optimax quiet rotors. My...

Will I miss the locking differential?

One area I think makes a difference with the locking rear-diff is on sustained climbs. We have a 0.6 mile gravel/grass trail on our ranch that is a sustained 30-40 degree slope. At the top of this trail, when there was more grass than gravel, the amber EPB light would come on and the...

Need to replace pads and rotors

tlt: Do you have any noise issues with the 3GD Sport rotors? I had them on my old GX470, and it sounded like a prop airplane, even when just cruising. Did not go over well with the wife, albeit the performance improvement with the Hawk truck pads was massive over OE. I just ordered the EBC...

    Painful video

Agree with what everyone has said, but I know for me, with the advent of Terrain Response I had to relearn throttle modulation. Land Rover = smooth throttle, do not back out for any reason, and let the electronics figure the traction issues out. During my brief foray with my manual GTS, all this...
