The Quest for A Durable Front Crossover Pipe

FYI I still have the one I just pulled out. Failed on the front and rear seam, also completely disintegrated where the o rings are. The weak link seems simple from what I have seen and it’s the seam between the plastic parts. On the lower y section

Never mind, found Scott’s old post about bleeding the system, trying in a bit

Got it, thanks for the info, is there a way to get the air out without the tool?

    Water pump. FAIL

Also... what are the proper steps to bleeding the coolant systems just keep running it, squeezing top hose, opening refilling etc. top hot is hot bottom is still cold so I stroll have air in there for sure

I’m assuming it’s ok at least to drive to a place to have it flushed? Probably needs it with 140k anyway

Ok so right now I capped the line in red, but now that I know what it’s for and the stock way was the lines In green and I need to redo the red to the green . Not sure but I’m guessing that’s what’s causing the overheating issue? Can’t be coolant, not that fast

    Water pump. FAIL

Nope so first I got the valvoline max life for all makes and models (red). Then about a bottle of peak 50/50 for all makes and models (green). Just took for. 2 minute drive and it said overheating and switched to slug mode One more side note after driving the coolant reservoir went from cold...

    Water pump. FAIL

Ok so all reassembled, all good, except I screwed up and put in the wrong coolant, maybe 4 quarts worth, didn’t realize the little sticker till it was too late. So do I need to do an entire coolant flush? What are the options here? (Never realized the organic acid specific to lr)

Also can anyone explain the modification with the new hose to thermostat? There’s the new dummy line coming off the throttle body, and I assume the tube coming from the overflow tank gets attached to the other side of the dummy hose? My main question is why not just provide two end caps? One for...

    Water pump. FAIL

Ok so it’s definitely the crossover pipe, was split on the backside of the y. Problem again when I went to reattach the water pump again the bottom left bolt sheared off. Using my smallest ratchet I tightened it “snug” before using the torque wrench and it just sheared, not much pressure. Is it...

    Water pump. FAIL

It’s a 2010, from what I can find it’s likely the crossover pipe, just not sure why it would fail catastrophically during the install of the water pump

    Water pump. FAIL

No that was on my list today, I just though it would be weird to have that break while changing the water pump? Unless that’s what was leaking from the beginning?

    Water pump. FAIL

Hey guys, looking for some feed back, I’m new to the site but not to rovers. Admittedly I have never worked on my lr4 till tonight besides some very basic stuff. But, I am handy and there isn’t much I can’t fix on a vehicle (normally). Soooo I replaced the leaky water pump! Great, pretty...
