    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Thanks for the kind words, @Land Rover Joe! From one internet stranger to another, I really do appreciate it. :) And I love LR Time! I haven’t seen this one, but it makes me feel better to know that even Christian makes mistakes. I’m taking some time away from the LR4 this weekend, but when I...

$56,000 2016 LR4 Landmark - Pricing typo or rising market?!?

Probably hoping some financially secure buyer stumbles in and doesn't know or care. ;)

By the way, my GAP tool doesn’t show any engine faults registered.

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

I am so sick of this car. I finally got the leak fixed and was able to confirm that the system could hold a vacuum, then I vacuum filled the coolant, and then confirmed that the system could hold pressure too. Then I turned on the car, turned the heat to max, idled until I felt heat, turned off...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

So I did the pressure test like y’all recommended and it turns out that the top half of the OEM front crossover pipe I got has a defective O ring! So I’m gonna return it and get another and hopefully that concludes my wild goose chase. Fingers crossed.

    Cooling System/Crossover Pipe

I'd definitely avoid using ChatGPT as the only source of guidance. My company has an enterprise license and I would consider myself a power user of the various models (4o, o3, etc) and they are amazing at many things, but reasoning about complex automotive systems is not one of them (and if you...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Well I took the whole damn thing apart this weekend. Checked the water pump (both O rings installed correctly), reseated the lower half of the front crossover pipe, and made sure the rear heater manifold was sitting right on the engine block and that the O rings weren’t pinched. Put it all back...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Side note, but has anybody ever used a mechanic’s stethoscope to find vacuum leaks by sound in hard to reach places? I tried it today to get at the junction between the lower front crossover and the engine block and didn’t seem to hear any appreciable difference between what that junction...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Alright, so the air compressor is not the problem. It really is a vacuum leak in the system. I removed the expansion tank from the vehicle, put vacuum plugs in the outlets, and ran the vacuum on the expansion tank and it held -24ish inHg, so I’ve ruled that out as the cause. I also hooked it...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Thanks for everyone’s advice so far. For these kinds of vacuum fills, do I need to be thinking about any other sources of leaks other than the rubber hoses or do I need to be considering things like the seals between the intake manifold and the engine block, the PCV valve, and the seal between...

    Troubleshooting coolant vacuum fill failure

Hey folks. I’m at my wit’s end with the very last step in the comprehensive cooling system overhaul on my 2015 LR4 with 86k miles that I’ve been doing following txfromwi’s extremely helpful video on YouTube. My problem is that I can’t draw a vacuum greater than about -5 inHg. I’m using the...

    2015 LR4 coolant leak

Hey, “difficult to reach” is relative! After having replaced the transmission pan, filter, and mechtronic sleeve on my wife’s 2012 RRS, I’m literally thrilled to work in the engine bay again!

    2015 LR4 coolant leak

Hey folks, About 10 days ago, I discovered what seems to be a small coolant leak while preparing to change the transmission fluid on my 2015 LR4 with 86k miles. After removing the gearbox heatshield to access the drain and fill plugs, I noticed a small amount of coolant that had trickled down...
