I have a 97 Disco and since November I have installed shocks, steering stabilizer, repaired the CDL shifter linkage, dropped the oil pan and cleaned the strainer, changed engine and diff oil, fixed the seat adjustment switch, replaced the right window regulator and put on new rear mud flaps. Most tasks done with the help of this forum's guidance.

Yesterday, I installed new Bosch platinum 4 plugs and 8.5 mm ignition wires and this morning the Check Engine light came on although the vehicle is running beautifully.

I have a code reader and I seem to recall that the plug in to read codes is under the passenger seat? Is this right or is it somewhere else?

Also, is there any trick to get the license plate lights to work consistently? I cleaned the leads and made sure the connections were good but they only light up half the time.

Thanks to everyone for your tips and brain power.

You have an OBD2 system and to read the codes you must plug in under the dash to the right of the steering column.

Thanks Mike.

How about the license plate light question? Any tricks or solutions?

Thanks again

(not that you haven't already looked at this)
If you know the wire colors, you might look at where they leave the body and enter the door just in case they got pinched, worn or pulled. On almost every electrical issue I have ever had with any vehicle it always ends up being a poor ground, or grounding short, especially lights.
