Prolly a dumb question, but why are people with automatic transmissions using parking brakes? I mean, isn't the vehicle physically incapable of moving with the transmission in park and either the park pin or ball (how ever LR does it) engaged?

Just wondering...
I think it's because when you parked on an incline or decline you don't want
the weight of the vehicle resting on the transmission.

Yep; you're actually supposed to apply the park brake, put the tranny in N; release the foot brake and then put the tranny in park to explicitly put the weight on the brake and take it off the park pin.

I just spoke to my SA who said that this may not be covered by the extended warranty because there is no tangible hardware to replace. Also, if the noise or problem isn't occuring right now it's almost impossible to get it covered.

I guess I'm just gonna sit tight for now.

Guess I missed that part in the owner's manual, of course I only read that thing when something is wrong. Guess those back brakes are capable of keeping all 7K lbs still...who knew?

Don't feel bad it isn't in the owner's manual....I learned it both on this board and at the LR Experience Driving School.

7K pounds, huh? I swear that number goes up every time I hear it...Maybe fully loaded with 7 200 lb males it's 7000 lbs.

I just brought mine in for the same problem. The dealer had to replace the actuator as I was told. They also told me that the park brake drum needed to be replace and wasn't covered by the warranty and was going to cost $485.00 to repair. Something just didn't sound right as they first made it sound like the warranty didn't cover the part, but apparently they said it was parts and labor. Are they trying to pull one over on me?

so, after about a year, the noise has been buggin the heck out of me. I called over the the stealership and asked specifically what the problem was. The service tech told me that the inspection said I needed to replace the parking brake shoe which was causing the noise and also noted that this was not covered by the CPO warranty. The thing is that i replace the brakes about 4 months ago.

Is there are separate park brake shoe/pad??? What it the process to recalibrate the EPB??

TIA
