I don't think fluids are covered under any warranty terms anywhere. It's a consumable.

But if it fixed your issue, there's something else going on if your fluid wasn't low.

I have this same sound, but it hasn't bothered me about to complain about it yet.

I have read that the power steering fluid purportedly needs changed just like other hydraulic fluids, such as the brake fluid and transmission fluid. When it starts getting old, it loses some of its lubricative powers. Mine isn't really that old (2012 sold in December 2012; currently at 60k miles), but who knows.

The sound was so faint on mine that I needed to have both the stereo and the air conditioning turned all the way off to hear it. I predicted that it could get worse over time, so I went ahead and had the dealer do it in case the problem was beyond a fluid change and, therefore (hopefully) something under warranty.

Same, I can only hear it when the stereo is off and AC is low / off. My truck is a 2013 and I have been hearing it for, at the very least, a year+.

I just noticed this same issue on mine today. Radio was off, a/c wasn't working hard.

I'll probably try and do the flush sometime soon. Is the power steering fluid all that specific? most of them are compatible with all makes and have additives. I topped up my fluid recently (was down a tiny bit below the line) with some Royal Purple Max EZ high performance synth ps fluid.

I would have maybe tried to do it myself, but I just couldn't find any LR4-specific instructions on how to do it. There are LR3 ones online, but I believe I read somewhere that it's different on an LR4. I am not certain about that, nor did I confirm it myself.

You probably saw it, but I posted earlier in this thread what fluid my LR dealership used. I bet there are a lot of other options, though.

As this has been quiet for a while, can folks who flushed their Power Steering Fluid confirm that it got rid of the noise and the remedy lasted?

I notice the noise on my 2013. I used to notice it on my 2005 also, but never thought much of it.

Thanks!

Fluid isn't the issue
Steering Gear is the issue not being lubricated properly.

Not sure if bad ring or what
That However when fixed / worked on means entire ps system has to be flushed and refilled.

So yes fluids are covered when mechanical parts fail that use them...

Just had water pump failing too...
Changing water (coolant) would not have solved.

Just as a note ..

I wouldn't recommend driving with a failing steering gear... Not fun when it locks up during turns (my 2500 Deisel did that same part -different failure I hope- would lose Steering temporarily in one direction)

Thanks. I missed that when going back through but re-found the link to the TSB that was shared;

Good stuff. Increased the chances I can get it covered under warranty.

Sounds like a dirty or rubbing clockspring. Use WD 40 or CRC 556 with a long tube and lightly lube. Had to do it once a year on my last Jag: none of the Land Rovers were as loud or disconcerting. Easy fix.
