It really sort of doesn’t matter if some think LRs suck. Maybe they do, mebbe no.

Ever since I drove one across Anatolia in the late 60s I’ve wanted one. One day, late November 2016, almost 50 years later, I was driving past Norwood (MA) Land Rover and thought, “What the hell!”, stopped and bought one.

Every time i climb into it i feel good. Mechanical glitches are a small price to pay for that.

At least one of them doesn’t suck.

Yeah, they're supposed to be awful but even my first, a 96 Discovery 1 never needed a flatbed/tow and never left me stranded except for the time I was distracted and ran out of gas LOL. It now has over 240,000 miles and runs strong. My Disco 2 is still fine as well, never needed a flatbed either but I'm keeping its mileage down, still only about 90k having bought it in 2006 :) My lr3 bought new (both of those were with about 20k miles each), has been fine pretty much. Needed several items replaced but nothing uncommon or crazy.

Maybe this will be an issue with my LR4, but so far, so good. I'm not going to throw the baby out with the bathwater due to one pipe. It may be a good preventative replacement item. Wish there was a brass option for it, though.

That said, my LR3 was riddled with issues, engine and otherwise. It was an early one, so that's notable, but the manifolds on that vehicle were replaced as a TSB item. So, there's always "issues" no matter the vehicle.

What are you going to do, go buy an Explorer? I'm sure there are plenty of Ford parts in that engine.
