2 button remote setup

I have recentley purcased a 97 Discovery it only has 1 remote for the immobilizer and alarm, if I buy another 2 button remote can I programme it myself ? I want to stay away from the local dealer because $$$$$$$$
I want to import the new remote from the UK into Australia at a 1/3 the price
I have some instructions in the "Owners Handbook" to "setup" the remote after battery has been changed , will this work with a new remote ?

Not sure on a non USA model, but here in the states it required a dealer or someone with testbook (dealer type computer) to program a remote on 96 or newer discos.
